A Great Hangout Spot For Groups
Looking for a way to beat the heat, or to satisfy those post-dinner ice cream cravings? Head on over to The Daily Scoop, if you happen to be in the Holland Village Area. Located opposite the bustling main section of Holland Village in Chip Bee Gardens, The Daily Scoop is frequented by families, students and youths alike. With a wide range of both classic and premium flavors (think lychee martini and Mao Shan Wang) made in-house everyday, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
I’ve been to The Daily Scoop more times than I can remember. From having late night chats over bowls of cold ice cream, to celebrating the end of the exams with my classmates, The Daily Scoop has been a fixture in my JC life. My personal favorite is their Simply Chocolate. Velvety with a deep chocolate taste, this is something that all dark chocolate lovers and ice cream purists will appreciate. The Mango Magic is a close second, and is incredibly refreshing on a hot afternoon.
It’s almost always crowded, especially on weekday nights, but seating frees up fast. Although some of their flavors may come off as one-dimensionally sweet, at a $3.50 per scoop, The Daily Scoop is a great place for a fuss-free and affordable ice-cream fix.
Ice Cream You Could Eat Everyday
Daily scoop is one of the most popular ice cream parlours in Singapore. It seems like everytime I eat at Holland Village, dessert is inevitably at Daily Scoop.
The secret to their success is that there is such a wide range of good ice cream at Daily Scoop, there will definitely be something for everyone. No one particular flavour stood out to me as exceptional though.
The brownie at Daily Scoop is something special other than the waffles typically served at such ice cream places. A hot chocolate brownie filled with hot, melting chocolate is just a perfect match for an icy ball of ice cream.
The Scrumptious Times
I love the quirky name of this ice-cream parlour! If I could have their ice-cream delivered to me each day, newsboy-style, I would wholeheartedly give this place a 10/5. But one can only dream - I guess I’ll just stick to visiting their outlet near Chong Pang for now.
Hazelnut Haven is the entire reason why I love The Daily Scoop so much, so much so that I always make it a point to grab a takeaway pint whenever I drop by. There’s not much to complain about their ice-cream flavours or food items, although their waffles may be a tad too crispy, and could be better with a bit more fluffiness inside. Otherwise, flavours worth trying would be their Mao Shan Wang (if you’re a durian lover) and Kookie Monster.
With a little bit of Googling, I’ve found out that The Daily Scoop actually offers ice-cream delivery, with free delivery being available every Thursday! Now that I’m one step closer to my dream, let me just find a sponsor...
Unique Ice Cream Flavours
With a few branches in Singapore, one of them being at Holland Village, The Daily Scoop is a rather good place to go if you want to grab a light dessert or something cold to deal with the heat. The overall ambience was relaxing, featuring a mostly white decor, this ice cream parlour was spacious enough so that you can have a decent conversation without being interrupted by the conversation at the next table.
Serving quite a unique selection of menu, we got the Hazelnut Haven and Cookies and Cream, alongside with their brownies and waffles. Overall, their ice cream are not too bad, nothing out of this world, but not lacklustre either. Waffles wise, don't expect anything amazing, but anything with ice cream tastes good anyway.
The brownies are a definite must-try. Soft, fudgy and chewy, the brownies are warmed up before laying a scoop of ice cream on top. The hot and cold combination made it absolutely delightful you're just sad when the experience ended. Overall, it's an alright place, do visit it if you walk past it on your other adventures, but it's not something that's worth going out of your way for.
Daily Scoop of Ice Cream
I have not been to the actual location of The Daily Scoops but I've tried the ice cream. My friend bought a tub of Nutty Macadamia. The packaging looks plain and average but wait till you discover the magic inside.
Nutty Macadamia consist of Macadamia ice cream with lotsa roasted macadamia nuts. When I first had it, I was surprised by how light it was, because I was expecting the usual heavy cream taste. I had it with waffles and it compliments each other very well. There are also bits of nuts for some crunch.
So if you are seating in, remember to order your ice cream with waffles!
Colourful Place, Great Ice Cream
I love how happy and cheery the interior of their outlets are. Even just standing outside the place, you just feel compelled to push that glass door and sit down for a nice, refreshing treat.
It was my first time at The Daily Scoop so I was a bit at a loss as to which flavours to choose. In the end, I decided to just rely on my mood and picked a single scoop of Lemon Sherbet (so refreshing!) in a chocolate-dipped rainbow sprinkles cone. Albeit being a weird combination, it tasted not bad at all :)
I was there with friends and some of them ordered waffles topped with ice cream whereas others ordered double scoops. In no time, we had all cleared our plates. There was not a trace of ice cream left! I like to think that this is a testament to the quality of the ice cream here.
To end off your visit, you can also help yourself to free water at a small area in the corner. In this hot weather, good ice cream parlours like this are a true blessing!
Favourite Indie Flavours
Daily Scoop is my favourite ice cream place of all time. I don't even have to choose where to go if Daily Scoop is in the vicinity; I automatically go there for dessert.
I usually select classic flavours such as chocolate, vanilla or cookies and cream. I've never liked weird, different or even fruity ones. To me, ice cream is best when it's plain. But it's a different story at Daily Scoop. Here, I am not hesitant to get flavours different from the norm. In fact, they have the most unique flavours out of all the ice cream places.
My personal favourite is coconut and kaya. The Daily Scoop is not afraid of innovation and they make the effort to infuse local flavours with their ice cream. And it often results in divine ice cream.
Ice Cream Time
The outlet is newly opened and is quite crowded even it is already 9pm. We have to spend some time to look for a table. I like the fact that there is baby chairs available. There is also flow of plain water to help yourself to at the side. There is a number of different flavours of ice cream available at the counter to try out.
Waffle with a scoop of ice cream ($6.20)
We have the waffle with a scoop of Mango Magic ice cream. The msngo ice cream tastes tangy and refreshing. However the pipping hot waffle tastes a bit disappointing.
Brownies with a scoop of ice cream ($6.20)
We have the brownie with a scoop of Yellow Brick ice cream. The greylish looking ice cream has carmelized bananas and brownies in it. I like the soft banana pieces in it and does not taste too sweet. Just nice to balance the sweet chocolate taste of the warmed brownies.
Best brownies ever
The Daily Scoop is one of my favorite places for Ice Cream in Singapore. I frequent the outlet at Chip Bee Gardens and the staff there are really friendly and patient, willing to let you try any flavor you desire.
They offer a few combo sets such as a brownie or waffle set. I had their waffles on two occasions and they were tasteless and soggy, not crispy as I would like. Their brownies, on the other hand, are heavenly! It has a crunchy crust and a moist, almost fudgey centre. I highly recommend ordering the brownie set with ice cream as it is such a wonderful combination.
Flavors over there are special and unique. Some of my favourites include their Chendol ice cream as I enjoy the fragrant taste of gula melaka and red beans, as well as their Strawberry Shortcake with real cake bits inside, Coconut, Salted Mister Brown and Thai Chai. They have special flavours sometimes such as Green Tea Azuki and Pistachio.
Free water is available there too in case everything gets too cloying. Prices are quite steep in my opinion but nevertheless, it satisfies my sweet tooth perfectly :)
The Daily Scoop is my favourite ice-cream place in Singapore. Even though the range of flavours offered are not as extensive as other ice-cream parlours, the flavours at Daily Scoop are all very authentic and flavourful.
My favourite flavour has got to be the Thai Chai. It is sweet yet not overwhelming, and somehow it just attracts you to eat mouthful after mouthful of ice-cream. Another of my all-time favourite flavour has got to be the classic Chocolate, which is very thick and flavourful, unlike some of the disappointing ones at other shops. The waffles and brownies are also good choices to eat with your ice-cream.
The only downside is that the shop is always quite crowded, and the tables are quite close together, making it hard for people to find seats and sit comfortably. But the ice-cream there is what makes me go back again and again for more.
