Desserts to die for!
Bread and butter pudding, my favourite. I've heard great reviews on the one served at Carousel and it didn't disappoint. Thick slices of french bread soaked with a warm custard sauce. Pleasure in every bite.
I had the chance to go for the weekday lunch buffet. The spread was really good, and had something for every palate. Even my little sister who isn't very adventurous with food ate lots of new things. (She tends to go "eeee this looks weird" when she is presented with something she hasn't eaten before) And this just is another testament to me about how good the food there is. So try it out! Plus it's one of Singapore's only halal buffets!
My favourite place to visit for an international buffet
Carousel is one of the best value for money places I've been to on my hunt for the best international buffet in Singapore. I haven't tried that many, to be honest, but out of all that I've tried, I particularly liked Carousel.
Located at Royal Plaza on Scotts (Orchard Road), it is situated very conveniently and hence getting there wasn't much of a hassle.
Carousel has a wide variety of international delights, ranging from fresh oysters to sushi, beef ball soup etc. Almost everything here is delectable, but my favourite would definitely be the chocolate fondue.
I remember bringing my partner there for his birthday just last year, and I was impressed by how thoughtful the staff were upon knowing that we were celebrating a birthday. When I signalled to them that we were ready, a group of staff (5-6 of them) came to our table, singing their very own Carousel Birthday Song and holding onto a small cupcake. After which they proceeded to help us take a picture with their polaroid camera, print it out on the spot, and put it in a small personalised Carousel "envelope" and gave it to us. 5 stars for their thoughtfulness which left my partner and I with a very good impression of this place.

Great variety Buffet
After hearing so much good stuffs about this buffet restaurant, I decided to bring Mom to here for high tea which is available from 3.30pm to 5.30pm and costs $45++ for an adult during weekend. At first I tried to book for a table through online but the website showed that it full on that day. Then I tried to call up but unable to get through. In the end I sent an enquiry through the website's contact page. Later that day I received a phone call from the restaurant confirming my reservation, but without any email confirmation.
The variety of food served in the buffet was quite wide. My favourite was the Seafood On Ice Station which served Conch, Whelk, Green Mussel, Clam, Lobster Claw on that day. The big sized Conch which had a taste similar to abalone and was delicious with simply lemon juice.
An unique station is the DIY Ice Kachang Station which was filled with 21 different toppings such as chendol strips and ginkgo nuts. We had great fun operating the ice shaving machine. The shaved ice was quite smooth and fine.
Overall it was a great place for tea with its huge variety of food, but the time was a bit limited since it was a 2 hours buffet (3.30pm - 5.30pm). Another thing was that the tables could be a bit too near to each other. For example, my chair and the one behind me was just side by side. I had problems getting out of the seat. But it was quite fun to celebrate birthday here. The wait staffs and the kitchen staffs would stand around in a straight line and sing the Birthday song together. The birthday boy who was sitting next table to me, got a cupcake with a lighted candle on top. So sweet.
The best time of the day is High Tea.
I'm not a huge buffet person, I can never stomach enough to make my money worth it. But, I find myself gravitating back to Carousel every end of the year and I never leave disappointed.
My favourite section of Carousel is probably the dessert station. They have loads of fondue and ice cream as well as cakes and pastries. They were all really yummy but kind of small in size so I found myself walking back and forth to get more.
On a side note, I really like how you get a private room if you reserve for more than 10 people (14 max). It isolates you from the rest of the world and makes everything more intimate.
Don't go if you do not have any reservation
When I drove past this restaurant, I saw a poster saying that this was the best buffet restaurant. I told myself I need to try out this restaurant. So when I was around the area and looking for a place to have dinner, I walked over to the restaurant. It was before dinner time and I did not see any queue so I walked over happily and asked for a table.
The waiter told me that if I did not have any reservation, I would be put on the waiting list and currently, they already had five more customers on the waiting list. It was a weekday night. That was not the first time I was "rejected" by the restaurant. There was once that I was required to organise a farewell lunch for a colleague and I tried to make a reservation to the restaurant two days before the farewell lunch. I was told that the next available date for a big table would be one week later. Such was the popularity of the restaurant.
When I finally got to visit the restaurant, I noticed it was not a small restaurant and I guessed there were easily more than 50 tables and yet it was so difficult to get a table there.
"Best Buffet?" Not boasting!
I went there for its weekend high tea buffet, and it didn't disappoint! With a large spread at your disposal, you can really dig in to anything you want! And the best part is, in copious amounts! They offer a whole spread of seafood, with huge mussels, fresh prawns, some shellfish and a selection of three different types of sashimi. Take my advice and go for the salmon (the others offered are tuna and some other fish; yellowtail perhaps?), it is extremely fresh and succulent! Definitely tantalizing tastebuds and obviously value-for-money. I went all out!
Other than that, they of course have a sushi spread along with its sashimi. They also offer a wide variety of local delights such as popiahs (which are freshly made on spot) and laksa. Not to mention a live kebab station, which should not be missed with the glistening hot chicken luring you in as it spins on the axis!
Last but not least there's also a variety of desserts available, including fresh fruits that you would expect to be of inferior quality, but are not at all!
All in all, it's worth the price and it's not boasting when it states that it has won the Best Buffet in Singapore!
SEAFOOD - The sashimi was to die for! Carousel is great for its seafood selection. Oysters, Scallop, Sashimi, live prawns etc. For the first time I was there they had different oysters from different countries (not the second time I was there though). They also had Asian food like dimsum and chicken rice but I didn't think that the Asian cuisine was that fantastic. Overall a great buffet place and a must-go for its seafood selection.
delectable buffet spread
If you are ever around the Orchard Road area and have some time to splurge at a high end restaurant serving a delicious spread, then Carousel is definitely the place. Without fail, its one of the places i go to when i intend to indulge myself for a buffet spread and i would recommend that you go for the high tea.
Compared to many other high tea buffet's that i have been too, by far Carousel has one of the widest selection and choices from desserts, local food, hot and cold dishes, seafood served fresh and ready for you to indulge. The desserts are to die for especially the array of sinful cakes available. They also serve local and international cuisine many of which we are too familiar with. But what makes it different from the rest that you can find elsewhere is that it makes you feel like you are eating on home cooked food in the comforts of a posh restaurant.
The prices are reasonable compared to other hotels that offer high tea buffet. Well i believe that if food this good, its definitely worth the money. Come with an empty stomach and you will have a fruitful time.
What is most important to me about buffets is variety, and of course, the price! Carousel offers a huge selection of seafood, local food, desserts, western and so on.... ALL at a reasonable price! I hate to pay so much per head at a buffet, only to be constrained by the miserable selection of food. For me, Carousel definitely sets the bar for selection/variety of food at buffets.
Also, the quality of the food is superb. The seafood is undeniably fresh, and I just could not stop going back to the seafood table for more cold prawns, salmon and mussels. At the same time, I could not find a single item in the whole restaurant that was lacking in flavor. Best part was that I ended my lunch on a sweet note with pudding and had so much fun with the chocolate fondue fountain!
Not to forget, I get to dine with my Muslim friends because Carousel is halal!
Halal Buffet at last!
For the Muslims in Singapore, sadly there aren't that many (dare I say high-end) places where you can enjoy buffet style dining. Thank goodness for Carousel. It is easily my family's favourite place to celebrate birthdays or dine out with guests from overseas. The kids just love the desert section where they can dip fresh strawberries and marshmallows into the rich chocolate fondue like nobody's watching! The creme brule is excellent and the bread and butter pudding has got to be my favourite.
The place boasts a wide array of cuisines bound to satisfy even the most picky eater. The diet-conscious can head over to the salad bar or the seafood corner. The 'menu' does keep changing so you would not get bored if you decide to patron the place again and again. The service is excellent. I was slightly disappointed by the 'local food' section though. Personally, it doesn't taste local enough if you know what I mean.
You can also pack away cakes and macaroons once you're done with the meal. If you dont mind paying 6 bucks for a slice of cake, that is.
Great tea time buffet
I tried their tea time buffet once, with my friends, and it was quite an enjoyable experience. We were assigned quite a big table, complete with all the trappings of a posh restaurant. Comfortable chairs, clean tables with which are not too tightly packed and the friendly staff made for a very comfortable dining experience. Being a restaurant set in a hotel in the Orchard road district, one might say that this is all to be expected, I still feel that it exceeded my expectations.
They offer a large range of cuisine styles, from western to eastern and down to the southeast Asian. For the tea time buffet, I saw food like sushi, sashimi, lakes, kueh paitee and alot more. The quality was decent, nothing fantastic though. People on a lower budget might find this place expensive, but for those who can afford it, you should have a try.
Love the high tea buffet!
I got to know about Carousel when I was just viewing around the Royal Plaza. I saw the restaurant crowded with diners, it was afternoon time so I guess they had the high tea buffet and I was kind of eager to try it out. So, I did some research on the website and was surprised to find out that it was halal international buffet and I was thinking that would be great cos that would be my first time dining in there.
I decided to go for the high tea buffet which costs me around $40 per pax. The buffet started around 3.30 pm and I would suggest that you make an advance reservation, otherwise you would have to wait in the queue for quite some times.
Here is the spread that I loved the most; the Asian delights which include the chicken satay with peanut sauce. You can pour as much peanut sauce as you like. It is not too thick, adequate amount of peanut with a touch so spice for a boost. Other than that I also tried the mee Siam, it a so-so I would say but I still did enjoy myself. Other options such as curry, Laksa and mee rebus are also available.
If you are seafood lovers, you would not be left disappointed. They serve the freshest and premium seafood quality such as salmons, prawns, crab claws, white fish, tuna and many more. Sushi and sashimi are also available.
The desserts are plentiful; they have all sorts of cakes, ice creams, a wide variety of fruits. Those will definitely leave you satisfied and so full.
It was a great buffet and although it seems pricey, I would still come back and enjoy anther round of buffet.
