Village to city
Most Singaporeans know him as the famous Sir Stamford Raffles, whose name represents top quality - well, Raffles Institution is the crème de la crème of all schools.
I wonder how would Singapore be now if he did not discover this little island, now the little red dot, in the nineteenth century. We would not be named 'Busiest Port in the World', 'Cosmopolitan City', 'Third best city in the world to reside in' so on so forth. If not for him who paved the road to success for us, Singapore probably would not have come so far in our developments over the century. Perhaps, we would still be a fishing village!
