This fine dining establishment is the upper-class, slightly more posh version of Tao, their sister outlet, located at Pomo. The concept is very much the same - a 6 to 7 course degustation menu, a fusion of East meets West.
I love that they provide crunchy pasta sticks as starters, a pleasant variation from the usual bread-and-butter combination. The king crab claw salad is light and a pleasing start to the meal. Mains that I've tried include the Beef Tenderloin, as well as the Herb-braised Lamb Shank. They used to have a King Prawn main with some sort of creamy sauce over it which was simply delightful. The red meats are cooked well enough, but don't expect the standard to be the same as that of famous steakhouses. The drinks are always interesting, with fruit pieces floating around the ice cold beverage, served in a transparent tea pot.
The soups are passable and all the side dishes available on the menu are delicious enough. You can't really go that wrong with those anyway.
You can also request to try any of the dishes (an extra order) on the menu, if say, you've already made your choices but are still dying to try more. This of course, comes at a price.
Definitely a good place for a anniversary or birthday if you're looking for somewhere quiet to spend with that special someone. I would say that the ambience and service definitely add more value to the whole experience than the food actually does.
For above average food, top notch service and ambience, a 7 course set will set you back at around $70/head.
This place blew me away when i first came here a few years back. A friend strongly recommended it and said it is a really affordable place with amazing food. I love how if you come in a big group, you get your own private room and that is always good as you can speak loudly and go crazy.
So everything's a little gimmicky and done in a rather kitsch way. The whole ambience is also Ah Beng trying to be Antonio, meaning trying kinda hard to act high class. Same goes for the patrons as you can see many ah bengs and ah lians putting on their evening best with their hair combed back but really, you can smell their class 10 tables away.
Came back a few times after my first and the satisfaction is diminishing with each subsequent visit.

My partner brought me to doze on valentine's day. As like most restaurants, they've got a special menu for lovers on valentine's day. The menu was fixed and you could only choose between two main dishes for the main course. A huge disappointment for me because I have heard extremely good reviews on certain food at Dozo and would like to try out. Since that day was Valentine's Day, we were not about to order food from the ala carte menu.
The more memorable dishes I had was the cold platter which was served with Alaskan King Crab claw, sashimi and oysters. It was my first time trying the Alaskan king crab and it was indeed the best ever! The meat was so soft and sweet and it tasted very different from other crabs that I normally eat. I had a beef cheek as my main course and the meat was super tender and well marinated. The sauce was a great complement to the dish, though I was not able to figure out what sauce was that.
Overall, the food at dozo was really good and I wasn't that upset after all. I would certainly head back to Dozo on a normal day to try out their ala carte menu. In fact, I wouldn't recommend visiting Dozo on Valentines Day as the restaurant would be packed and their service weren't as good as what was being raved by others.
My dinner at Dozo was an extremely pleasant experience. Though the restaurant can be a little hard to find (it's tucked away at the side of the mall), the sheer quality of its food and the excellent service of its staff more than made up for this.
Dozo offers a satisfying seven-course meal, of which you are allowed to pick out your own desired dish for each course. Among the most memorable dishes were the Expresso Creme Brûlée, escargots and the Mocktail of Love.
I especially liked the Mocktail of Love, drinks which were served in an extremely unique manner (in test-tubes). The drink itself was sweet, a must-try for most sweet-tooths.
Dozo is definitely a fine restaurant to dine at, and I am certain that it will not disappoint.
Despite my displeasure of Dozo not being very conveniently located, their mouth-watering steak was something I could not say no to. With a good succulent slab placed over a hot stone, the very impressive presentation provided a Japanese autumn theme that would allow you to experience a dish like no other.
To top it off, a chilled sweet serving of grapefruit drink (or other beverages of your choice) was served at the end of the meal. The slightly sweetened beverage was a perfect combination with a rich chocolate lava cake and a scoop of vanilla ice-cream for dessert. This experience definitely got me leaving the restaurant with a huge smile on my face.
Dozo may not be a restaurant that immediately comes to mind if you think of fine dining, but it offers quality food (a fusion of Japanese and European cuisine) and service and it should get more recognition. While the tired-looking decor leaves much to be desired, their 6 or 7 course meal (depending on whether you are having lunch or dinner) is outstanding and comes with a variety of choices for each course.
There will be a waiter on hand to recommend to you their finer selections like their Pu Ye Beef Tenderloin, and you never have to wait long for each course. Definitely well-worth the price for its standard of food and service.
