Great Otah

Contrary to popular belief, Jalan Kayu does not only have prata to offer. Besides its nation-wide famous prata, Jalan Kayu also has a well known otar stall, Hiang Soon Otar Catering.

You can choose from two types of otar - spicy and non-spicy. That’s not the only choice you’ll have to make. Hiang Soon Otar Catering sells otar wrapped in coconut leaves and also otar wrapped in banana leaves. The biggest difference between the two (at least to me), is that the otar cooked in coconut leaves is thicker and tends to be drier but more flavourful, while the otar coooked in banana leaves is thinner and more moist although slightly less flavourful. I personally prefer otar wrapped in coconut leaves.
