Best Prata House, Ever.
I'm not saying this because it's near where I live but genuinely for the quality food they serve. I've tried many different pratas all over Singapore because my family enjoys having Indian food for breakfast on Sunday mornings and I haven't yet come across one as good as R K.
It might be termed pricey for some but I can assure you it's definitely worth it. The size of a plain prata is almost as big as the egg prata, unlike in most places where you get a real small one. Ever heard of the saying that when a prata tears away easily the moment you pull it apart, it means it's excellently made? Yes, the pratas here are as such!
My friends who come to Gardens for supper never fail to praise my luck at having a really awesome prata house in the vicinity. The highlight in this is that it's open 24 hours! That means you get to satisfy your grumbling stomach even in the wee hours of the morning with good food!
Humdrum fares, humdrum service....
There's a reason why I dine here....because I wanted to avoid waiting "forever" for a seat at Chomp Chomp Food centre, which is just across the road. As my review title suggests...my dining experience here is passable at best.
The eatery was recently reopened almost a month renovation. Certainly the ambience is cleaner, brighter, ...but regretfully, the service did not enjoy any improvement. While generally the service is reasonably brisk...it can get patchy and substandard. Staff not quite responding fast to reminder of incomplete orders, and worst, wrong items...iced longans can turned out iced lychees, etc. And the resulting staff glum face did not help in the meal. Perhaps my simple expectation might be set a "tad too high"... but I believe I should get what I ordered...no less, no more.
And the food, is it good ? Well, my honest opinion is it's acceptable at best. Nothing remotely spectacular. Just sustenance level. And the curry for the prata ? a basic litmus test of how good a prata experience ...well...forgettable. And the prata? Let's just say it make me missed those at Casuarina Road and Jalan Kayu.... and will I eat there again...yes...as long as the seats at Chomp Chomp are difficult to come by.
