Pot of Gold !

I have not patronise Yuan Yuan Claypot for many years. But recently, had the chance to revisit this "lao chao pai"...and the amazing thing is the memory of the taste comes flashing back. It's still the same...And the best thing is the prices have remained relatively unchanged over the years. At just $10 a pot for two people, $15 for 4 paxs and $2.50 to $4.50 for a bowl of homemade soup such as watercress with pork ribs or herbal chicken.

That speaks of how much a gem of a hawker the stall owner is, a rarity in today inflationary times...just think of COEs, ERPs ($6 for 8.30am to 9am for the ECP gantry !!!!!) and skyhigh house prices...Yuna Yuan is like a constant in a changing world...and the owner, Mr. Seah's claypot rice warms you up after a hard day's work...

His offering have a strong following and also count TV celebrities and famed personalities...but I hope those moneyed patrons tipped Mr. Seah for what his food is worth...as his effort can be felt and tasted the second it touches your taste buds.

I judge a claypot success by the smokiness and succulence of the meats (waxed preserved meat and chicken) within... and in this instance, all the ticks are in the right place. But one advise I have for all is to stir the rice thoroughly prior digging in to avoid the "congregation" of salted fish in one mouthful...that said, it's a pot of Gold!
