You will love the satay.....
For those living in newer estates with no hawker centres and only modern airconditioned food courts in shopping malls, one dish that they will find increasing difficult to find is... Satay. Probably due to the smoky nature of the charcoal broiled sticks of meat...it's not feasible to have in an enclosed aircon area...and imagine the effect on the smoke detector !!
That's why whenever I need my satay craving...I have to drive to Yong Seng Satay and Western Food at Upper Bukit Timah Food Centre. They must have served western food sometime back but with their ever popular satay taking all up their time and resources, must have decided to concentrate on their signature dish.
The selling point of their satay stall is not only its satay but also its satay gravy, which every bowl of peanut sauce comes with a spoonful of pineapple paste. And the staff are generous with the gravy... dispensing 3 bowls with an order of 20 sticks, not like most misery satay hawkers.
The sticks (45 cents each) of tender, juicy and well-marinated meats are available in chicken, pork and mutton (most will love the pork) and the ketupat (50 cents), are the usual type that are wrapped in leaves, not those machine-made type that are compact wrapped in green plastic (terrible !).
Do order at start of your meal and be patience, as the stall is very very popular... but it's worth the wait.
