Craving for meat? Drop in...
Sometimes work would throw me to the wrong end of Changi (travel-wise that is). However, that same end of Changi has a very odd way of making up to you. At the end of a hard day's work, I sometimes crave the taste of meat juices and if I am in Changi Village then I'd drop in to 89.7.
The steak that they sell is pretty good value for money. Despite being just like a coffeeshop, the chefs (if they are at all trained as chefs) would be able to cook my steak medium rare, just the way a proper restaurant would. Sometimes, even a proper restaurant would mess up my steak.
Maybe the presentation is a little sub-par, but who cares when you are hungry? Sitting outside also gives you a quasi al-fresco ambiance and you may even get a little of the seaside breeze if you are lucky. And, if you get sick of meat, there's plenty of other options to satisfy your hunger.
One of my favourite Seafood Haunts
The 89.7FM supper club is one of my favourite to get my seafood fix. It's also because there are not that many Halal Seafood places to begin with. I must confess that the quality of the food itself is what you'd expect from other seafood restaurants, it's pretty good, reasonably priced, but nothing to rave about.
The service in itself is exceptionally speedy for a seafood joint, which is always a plus in my eyes. Also, being within the Changi Village area, there's plenty of things to do after you're done with your meal. My personal recommendation? Take a walk to the beach and enjoy the calming sea breeze after a good meal.
Great food, great location
After driving past this place a few times, my friends and I decided to give this place a go. We have always been coming back here ever since then!
This place is open 24-hours, which is great for someone like me who always ends up going for supper at the most ungodly hour. They offer a wider variety, from western, seafood to local cuisines. No matter what I order here, I will always order a small plate of You Tiao. They are not stingy with the filling. It's crispy but not over fried either. Tastes great with the chilli and tartare sauce that they serve.
I also love the chicken rice here! The chicken is really tender and feels like it melts in your mouth. But the chicken seems to be a bit reddish at times. My mum said it's the blood (?) but I can't be sure. Still tastes good though. Another dish that my family and I love here is their Chinese Rojak. Again, really generous with the sauce and the ingredients do not get soggy.
The staff here uses a handheld device of some sort to take down your order, instead of the traditional paper and pen. I assume this goes straight to the cooks in the kitchen and as a result, you can expect your order to come within a short period of time.
I feel that this place is good value for money because for a relatively low price, they offer quite an amount on your plate! I had absolutely no regrets trying out this food eatery and would recommend everyone to come here at least once. The bus stops directly outside so it's rather convenient to get here.
If you are craving for Steak in the middle of the night....
This place is always open 24-hours. And I always come here to eat in the middle of the night when I’m out with my friends. I always order their ‘bullet steak’ and they always taste just as nice! The price of their steak is reasonable and cheap, a lot cheaper than other western restaurant or coffee shop stores that offer. The portion that this Supper Club provides is filling for me as the steak is thick and comes with cooked vegetables (carrots, corns and potato). What’s better is that you can choose how well you want the steak to be cooked as to your liking. Their sauce is thick and tasty, despite it being a bit salty.
As for the staffs, they are helpful and friendly. Their service is quick and efficient. Despite their menu offering a lot of other food ranging from Pratas to western and dim sum, I would not recommend their dim sum as I had tried once: Their chicken feet is pre-cooked and does not taste as nice as other dim sum shops. Also, their dim sum is slightly over-priced and not worth the price that it is selling at. Other than Bullet Steak that I feel that is worth eating, their Pratas are worth the money too. It is made and cooked freshly daily.
Cheap and Great Steak!
If you are not into the local food at Changi Village or had enough of it, you can cross the road for another exciting local food. The whole entire area of units belongs to this restaurant and they serve food from western to Chinese to malay and also seafood. Of course, they are Halal.
The first time I was here is because of a friend who is treating me. She said this is a good place if you want steak, three times cheaper than the one at Jack’s Place. Surprisingly, for a local spot like this, you can even choose the doneness of the steak. Since I have tried medium done, I requested for it to be medium, a balanced of well done portion and the rare one. The staffs are friendly too and they are very patience when it comes to waiting for us to make our orders. When the food arrived, I was surprised as to how it is almost similar to Jack’s Place except for the mashed potato that they served (Jack’s Place offers baked potatoes with bacon chips and mayonnaise). The medium is good. Half of the portion of the steak (looking at the side) is well done and the middle part towards the inside of the steak is rare. I could even see the juices of blood oozing out but it doesn’t taste of blood. It is actually the juice of the steak itself. The mashed potato is nice, not too hard and the sauce used is perfect.
I really like the steak, something cheaper than Jack’s Place.
