Hooked on their rendang!
Ordered their Fish Head Curry as it was their signature dish, but I was disappointed. The fish head wasn't hot and I felt like it had been boiled beforehand and then dumped into the curry just before serving as it didn't taste like it had absorbed the curry.
Then again, there are many rave reviews about the fish head curry so maybe that was just an off day. The other dishes I tried were good enough for me to overlook the curry, and I will be back again to give it another chance.
The rendang was really tender, not chewy or tough, and the curry it came with was just the right amount of spice. The prawn paste chicken and mee goreng were also good, the chicken was juicy and fragrant, and the skin was crispy.
For dessert, we had mango sticky rice, and the quality surprised me. I've had this at places in Singapore which claim to serve authentic thai food, but the rice is hard and starchy and the mango is nothing special. It tastes like it came from the packet. Hooked On Head's mango sticky rice, on the other hand, is almost as good as the one I had in Bangkok. The mango is sweet, juicy, and slightly creamy, and the rice is sticky, soft and chewy. Yum!
If you want to eat a variety of local food/thai food, you should give this place a try. They also sell Hor Fun and Hokkien Mee in black sauce. Another plus point, it's just in the building beside Chocolat N' Spice, so you can head there for dessert or takeaway for a snack later!
