Forget stereotypes, a relaxed and useful membership
My family always said that they wouldn’t become ‘one of those’ expat families, the ones who regularly go to The British Club to meet up with their fancy friends and drink fancy drinks while talking about fancy stuff. This however went straight out the window when my Mums friend sold her membership to us for half the regular price. Although we now regularly use the club and its facilities, admittedly I have changed my mind on the people who use it. Just ignore the completely tacky fake Knight in shining armour in the entrance.
There are multiple restaurants with different themes, from a British style Pub to a buffet, which is the main reason that we visit. Apart from the food, being able to use the gym whenever without having to pay for a separate gym membership is the best perk of being a member. It’s not the most modern gym, but you can also use the tennis courts and swimming pool without having to pay any extra. You can also bring guests along to use the gym with you, they just need to sign in and you’re no longer the lonely gym goer attempting to use kit you couldn’t even name.
The British Club also holds pretty good parties on their rooftop, it’s almost all undercover and they always have a temporary bar and waiters serving drinks as well as a separate room inside serving as the ‘dance floor’. Nothing about the club is a whole, if anything it just seems a little run down in parts and a bit old fashioned. I can’t lie though, now we’re members I find myself using the facilities much more than I ever imagined I could have.
