River Island Hot
Fans of high street brand River Island need not troop down to VivoCity to get their shopping done. The UK import has recently opened a store in Raffles City. With the same comfortable format as the VivoCity outlet (with strong emphasis on visual merchandising), River Island brings in new stocks of casual, yet stylish, skirts, pants, tops, dresses and shirts, chic accessories and a variety of footwear – embellished open-toe sandals, trendy sneakers and platform wedges – every two weeks. Giving in to runway copies has never been so easy.

Not for me
Hailing from the UK, I hold River Island to the standards of its fellow competitors like Topshop and Bershka. Sadly, this brand just doesn’t cut it for me. On rare occasions when I do find designs I like at River island, I realize that it is due to the trend rather than the actual product from River Island (i.e. highwaisted denim shorts).
The only time I take a good look at their products is when I’m on asos.com. They drive some hard bargains during sale periods. River Island is, however, a great alternative if you’re tired of the same old high street retailers.
Great place to shop if you like hipster clothes
I personally find that River Island's clothes are incredibly fashionable and trendy. Granted many of them are very hipster in style (especially so for the guys), but I like that style so it's 2 thumbs up for me. Their clothes are a tad pricey though so if you're on a tight budget, you might want to steer clear of this place.
I'm not too sure of the girl's collection because guy's don't really browse through the girl's section for no reason (and no I don't have a girlfriend), but my female friends seem to like River Island in general. Their bags and purses are particularly well liked, which I have no idea why, so don't bother asking me.
Next time you want to go shopping and you're ok with spending a little more than usual, make sure you pay River Island a visit.
Great-looking clothes and fashionable, but too expensive.
I have walked in to River Island quite a few times whenever I'm nearby, but somehow, I always come out empty-handed.
I find their clothes and wallets to be really cool, and it's well-known that River Island keeps up with fashion trends regularly, ensuring that I get to choose between what's hot at the moment. But I can usually find the exact same apparel at other shops a couple of weeks later, moreover, at way cheaper prices.
I would recommend it more for guys, though. I find that their street-trendy clothes usually look cool on guys than on girls. I'm not a fan of river Island, but I would recommend it for others.
I do have apparel from River Island, more often t-shirts or shoes. Although I have never shopped in a retail outlet in Singapore, I get my wares through online shopping. The designs that I ship are beautiful, some of which you cannot find in Singapore. Exploring contemporary themes and abstract art - they are known for their zany designs - I feel that they are amongst the best amongst street fashion out there.
They are more girl-oriented, although on occasion I spot some guys shopping as well. I have never found wallets there my thing, as they are more suited for the fairer sex. However, if guys you are looking for something a bit 'wilder', this is a good place to start searching.
River Island is one of those high street brands which I constantly visit, but hardly ever make a purchase. But when I actually do flash out my wallet to pay for something, I never regret my buys.
River Island stocks up on loud, colourful and attention grabbing pieces. Their clothings are of good quality, and there are several sales so despite how expensive certain pieces can get, the drastic markdowns make the clothings more affordable for poor students like myself.
Personally, I adore the wallets that River Island sells. The designs of the wallets are extremely pretty, and they're quite durable in relative comparison to the wallets that other high street fashion brands sell. Although bordering on the expensive side, River Island's wallets are definitely worth every single cent, as they are of excellent quality, and are made to last.
I hold River Island in great reverance
And they deserve every last drop of it.
I love River Island for their vibrancy. Their items come in varying stages of extravagance - there are common tees and simple shorts, there are in-your-face sequinned bareback dresses and loosely-held-together laced tops. Everything here is a glitz of color and material, there can be no girl who can walk into this store and leave it empty handed.
I have a lust for their wallets, I have only switched 2 River Island wallet in 4 years because that's just how lasting and timeless their wallets are. My favorite purchase was a leopard printed, black rimmed wallet and it lasted me through 2 long years before finally peeling off. I gave it an appropriate funeral and proceeded back to look for a descendant.
I am now the owner of a gold studded wallet and I love it to bits and pieces. I also had the pleasure of buying their limited stock tote bags and they are in a coveted part of my wardrobe. I love all accessories River Island, the apparel I am not too into though.
River Island is sheer love.
Get them online
I'll only go to River Island to look at all the pretty clothes and shoes and whatever else they have, very rarely would I actually buy something. That's because I find that if I were to buy them online, I'd save much more.. but then again, some people wouldn't want to wait so I guess online shopping isn't very viable.
Anyway, I think River Island is almost always spot-on regarding what's hot and what's hot. Their prices is a bit much though, but their quality isn't very bad. In fact, I have a River Wallet that's still very much usable after more than a year.
The customer service is alright.. nothing stellar but not mediocre either.
So, if you're patient, and wants to save some money, buy their stuff online. Trust me, it's much better that way.
Heels, glorious HEELS
River Island is by far one of my go-to high street brands. Whenever I am back in Singapore, I always make it a point to head to the lone store in Ion Orchard.
Although most would argue that things are overpriced and expensive, River Island regularly engages in numerous sales, where a plethora of dresses, skirts, tops, bags, accessories and heels go on sale, at massive reductions from the original prices! Granted, I only purchase things whenever the sales begin, but I never walk out of the store empty-handed whenever a sale is on!
River Island houses fashion so flamboyant and somewhat outrageous, clearly reflected in their bold colors and prints- a style I LOVE! This is especially noticeable in their high heel collection. 5-inch stiletto heels adorned with spikes, sequins and leather line the shelves of the shoe section. I myself have purchased 2 pairs of heels from the brand and have received compliments every time I don my affectionately named "Lady Gaga heels". Why? They are just so outrageous and stunning at the same time.
I would not necessarily recommend their clothing line, especially when a sale is absent, but do give their shoe collection a chance, it is TO-DIE-FOR.
River Island is a high-street British fashion chain store. Do take note that the River Island outlet at Vivo City is no longer there but has sprung up at Ion Orchard. River Island is a paradise for trendy clothes – generally cheap, considering that they are near knock-offs of fashion products of the latest styles of the season – you get pieces of the latest trend at good quality but at a fraction of a price as compared to major fashion houses. Price range is comparable to Topshop and Mango.
At River Island, there are clothes for men and women, and as with most shops which cater to both sexes, females will be more spoilt for choice by the larger variety of clothes, accessories and shoes. For female wear, there are two distinctively broad categories – formal cocktail dresses and casual/smart-casual/high-street clothing and other related products. For men, products pale in comparison – they are dominated by less trendy and rather typical casual wear and what not.
Service at River Island is not memorable. Not that it is bad, but it does not leave me with any impression at all.
riot of expensive colors
I always go into the River Island store but come out empty-handed. Reason being that their stuff are just too expensive and none of them fit me. I am a UK4 and I am unable to find stuff that fits me. Even if I do, I will most probably not buy it as prices are way too expensive. I saw a skirt for 60 over dollars and my heart jumped a little. I would much rather take that money and shop at Forever 21, thank you very much. The quality of the skirt was not that great to justify the price tag either. Bags can go up to 3 digits and are heavy in material. Heavy materials are not for me as I have a lot of things to carry on a daily basis and such heavy bags are not for me. It will just add on to the weight.
The store is usually full of colors and 'blings'. Shiny accessories, bright neon colors, messy drapes and tight snake-print jeans. River Island's style! These don't come cheap as well. With the mass-produced quality and sometimes cheesy and pompous design, it may not be everyone's cup of tea. Especially when it comes at a high price.
River Island do have promotions and discounts from time-to-time so if you're eyeing something from there, do wait for the sale to save yourself some money. Nothing there is worth the full price in my opinion.
