M)phosis was a very popular brand for my girlfriends during our schooling days. We used to go crazy over their simple black tops. Their pricing was still considered reasonable back then.
Over the years, the frequency of us going back M)phosis clothes is near to zero. Some of the tops that we used to own in the past are still in stores now! How retro can this be? And their pricing seems to have increased as well. We can’t comment much on the pricing as we understand about inflation and increase of rental costs etc. But as consumers, we’ve to feel worthwhile for the money we spent. Their clothing materials aren’t very durable or fantastic though.
Perhaps, they are very much into plain clothing with no prints. But its quite boring to step into any stores with clothes that are either black or white, with no prints, almost similar designs for all. Maybe there’s some pink, red, yellow sections but with limited sizes or designs available.
Their shoes and slippers don’t last very long. The only items that I’ll purchase from them now are their wristlets, small bags and pouches.
Noir & Blanc
I used to enter M)phosis often whenever I was at Parkway Parade, because the old Parkway Parade did not offer anything and M)phosis was the only store that seemed relatively interesting. Occasionally, I could find clothes which appealed to me and fit me well, and it was at a relatively reasonable price. Their clothes are rather uniquely designed, but after awhile the colour scheme gets really boring.. I do love black, but constantly seeing roughly the same designs over and over again.. you get the picture. Also, some of their designs were rather common and can be found in other retail stores.
What I like about their shop is their carrier bag for your clothes, usually made of cloth and tied close with a ribbon. It is reusable and I frequently use M)phosis's bags to store a change of clothes. ^^ The last time I went, one of the staff was very friendly and she did not mind helping me find the appropriate size of clothes, and even went to the extent of suggesting particular clothing according to my preference. Such service is rare in today's retail outlets. However, I recommend shopping during sales period, even though it depends on luck whether your size is still in stock, as there is a greater variety of clothes that are IN COLOUR at cheap prices.
Only go during their sale period
This is one of the shops I'd step in only when there's a sale going on. Otherwise, I really do not see the relation between burning a hole in my pocket and getting poor quality clothes. The clothes on their mannequins always look super nice but on a closer look, it can be quite a turn off. The regular prices of the clothes are just not justifiable with its material.
I bought some dresses and tops during their sale periods (thankfully) and found that after few washes, the clothes start to frill and some of them ( especially the white ones) run yellowish in colour. So yeah, mphosis is my got-sale-then-go-buy kinda shop.
The sale is an awful lot of awesomeness!
I usually walked by M'phosis stores without battering an eye. There didn't seem to be anything that lured my eyes except for it's rather barren arrangement. However, I found myself strolling into their outlet one day after being greeted by signs that were screaming with percentage signs.
The exterior didn't do justice to the contents that they had within! The accessories are rather exquisite. It gleamed and sparkled. It tickled my fingertips, urging them to reach for my wallet and purchase it! I finally did. The quality was impressive too for these severely discounted accessories. They do not seem to rust. Despite it looking physically chunky, I was taken aback by how light it was! I thought it was going to weigh down my neck like I've dangled some kind of bag filled with solid hard rocks from Arizona. It didn't.
Speaking of rocks, I adore the way they showcased their shoes that are on sale there. They are all being placed on an ocean of pebbles. It was indeed a far cry from the ordinary parquet or plastic panels other stores use.
The clothes are those that one would categorise under the rack of ' Safe choices' . They seem to be lacking in the colours department though. Go splash it with vibrancy away from the usual black and white zone!
Classy apparel at great prices
I have been given clothes from here as gifts from different people multiple times. So far, I've liked everything I've been given and this led to me going to their shop to browse through the clothes for myself.
I've been to several different outlets so far, and each store looks very sophisticated, chic and classy. It looks like the kind of store that working women would shop in. They have a wide range of apparel, from professional pieces fit for working adults, as well as pretty blouses for a casual dinner or company event. Their style can be described as minimalistic and chic, styles that I enjoy. The price range of the apparel sold here isn't too high, and this is good as shopping here will not burn a hole in your pocket, while providing you with quality clothing.
Chic and Cheap
I went to the store in Plaza Singapura today. I was attracted by the window display because I am a big fan of black & white fashion. This shopping trip turned out to be a highlight of my day and I would say this brand is a hidden gem. The design is simple and chic which might not suit everyone but definitely something I love. The clothes were not well presented as they all crammed together so you need to have some patience in hunting for the items you like.
If you look carefully enough, you might find something with a touch of avant-garde. I got a pair of pencil pants in Pop Art polka dot for only 23 bucks (after discount), which is crazy. I definitely go back sometime as this is my favorite brand in Singapore now.
Monochrome at its best
M)phosis is a great alternative when you tire of the same old high street retailers. You will be attracted by m)phosis’s clean aesthetic and rows of colour coded clothing. The airy nature of the store also gives off a chic vibe. You would be able to find both classic and trendy designs in an array of colours.
Sure, prices are targeted at working adults, but the bi-annual sale (starting at 30%) provides a good bargain for all! M)phosis also retails accessories and shoes that are timeless. All in all, I find m)phosis a rather trendy store to shop at.
Chic clothes with a hefty price tag
I've wandered into M)phosis several times, but I have yet to make a purchase at this store. The only reason for this would be that the clothes here are simply overpriced.
I personally like shopping at M)phosis as the clean and chic interior of the store gives it a very classy atmosphere. I particularly like that the racks of clothing are colour coded, so it definitely makes the shopping experience easier, as shoppers can just head towards the racks with clothing of colours of their choice.
The clothing designs at M)phosis are definitely impressive. M)phosis is the very epitome of simplicity, and the apparel sold there are usually simple, but with unique designs like an open sleeve - basically designs that are simple, yet with a touch of something special that will make passers-by take a second glance at your outfit.
The sandals at M)phosis are also worth a look! The sandals sold at M)phosis, like their clothes, usually have a simple but classy and timeless look, and are surprisingly comfortable on the feet as well.
The quality of clothing at M)phosis is average though; Nothing particularly thick, but not of shabby fabric either. However, the clothes at M)phosis can be a little pricey, with a price of about $35 for a mere simple top, which is definitely a pretty hefty price tag for a student like myself.
Never catches my eye
I've been to M)phosis only a few times, and I've never brought anything there. I've nothing against local labels, in fact I'm all for them, but for me, I can get stuff similar to M)phosis in Bugis Street for a much lower price.. and if that's the case, they really need to set themselves apart, because I can't be buying their stuff just for the label only.
Customer service was slightly better than the quality of their clothes. I'm always greeted with a warm smile, though sometimes they can be a bit in-your-face when they follow you around.
But I guess M)phosis is doing something right at least, since they have so many outlets around Singapore.
M)phosis stores feature a clean cut monochrome colour scheme- black and white, and sometimes pastal colours. It is kinda pleasing to the eye and onlookers may mistaken this to be a 'branded' shop along the likes of armani exchange etc.
However, upon entering the shop and browsing through the clothings, I was slightly disappointed as their clothes design were very simple and not appealing to the eye. They usually made use of solid colours and safe designs which i found to be not trendy enough. The quality was also average, so for the price paid of at least 30-50 dollars, it was not worth my bucks. I dont really recommend this place and, needless to say, i left the shop empty handed.
