I am a sucker for books

I am a sucker for books. You can call me a geek or nerd or both. I can literally talk about books for hours on end and never get bored of it. It probably runs in the family because everyone in my family is a bookworm and we will never regret spending on books.

If I am given a choice, I would rather book shopping than retail shopping. Prologue will definitely be one of my ideal place to visit because it has a wide selection of books. The whole ambience in the store is also very therapeutic to me.

Batman has Robin as his side kick who complements him. In Prologue, the amazing books are accompanied by soothing music that complements the whole book selecting experience. If you don't understand what I mean, try stepping into a Prologue yourself! :D

Vast collection of book stock

Another bookshop to add to the collection of bookshops in Singapore, Prologue isn't doing too bad itself. With the vast collection of book stock that it offers, I'm not surprised that it is able to compete with other bookstores like MPH and Times. While the other bookstores had no more stock of my book, I was desperate and came to Prologue - actually one of the last bookstores that I would resort to visiting - and found my book that I needed for the school term. I was pleasantly happy to know that at least the large collection that it stocked contained my book that I needed.

One thing that is novel about Prologue's Ion Branch would actually be the book cafe that is nested within the store, providing a nice, relaxing ambience to the place which allows one to snuggle into the seat and get engrossed into one's book while enjoying a cup of tea. This is one place that is definitely not to be missed when you visit this outlet.

Heaven for Book Lovers

Being a bookworm, I pop into Prologue as often as I could. Even if it's not to browse their range of books, it's to just relax at their cafe with a cup of coffee in my hand and my head in a book. Prologue is heaven for those looking for books which are much harder to get from Popular or Kinokuniya. Although priced a little higher than the other bookstores, it's definitely something us book lovers will close one of our eyes at.

As much as I find certain books worthy of their prices, I do suggest that readers out there should check out amazon or the national library first before heading into Prologue. On a brighter note, I highly recommend it to anyone who has time to kill, reading books on a rainy Sunday.

Decent

To me, Prologue is a bookstore that effortlessly manages to sandwich itself between the ranks of Popular and Kinokuniya. It's a more "atas" bookstore that caters more towards adults which means that you won't see the likes of young primary school children in their store. I like Prologue because they have a good range of books, although not as wide as the Kinokuniya in Ngee Ann City, but definitely much more selections than an average Popular. I often spend quite a fair bit of time browsing through their books!

Apart from books, Prologue also offers quite an enticing range of stationary and other small quirky gifts and items.Their gifts are interesting, unique and uncommon and most importantly, inexpensive. Some items are really cool and it's hard to find somewhere else, which makes Prologue a good place to go for last-minute gifts.

Finally, the best part that I love about Prologue is that you get the "atas-ness" of Kinokuniya and the discounts from a Popular bookstore. Being a part of the Popular group of stores means that your average Popular card can be used for a 10% storewide discount, which I often make use of. Overall, Prologue is good and I will definitely go back again for subsequent visits.

Comparable to Kinokuniya

To me, Prologue achieves the same standard as Kinokuniya, which is pretty impressive for a local store.

Though its selection might not be as varied as the one at Kinokuniya, it is still pretty reasonable. Given its convenient location at Ion Orchard, bookworms now have a safe haven to relax in, away from the hectic shopping atmosphere of the mall.

The interior of Prologue is truly well done. The lights are soft and welcoming, the books are all shelved neatly in wooden bookcases. Compared to Popular, Prologue is just screaming 'high-end'. The prices are understandably more expensive than those in small bookshops, but I'd pay the higher prices just to enjoy the ambience of the store.

Popular w Class

Comparing Popular to Prologue, I definitely prefer the latter, albeit it being less accessible comparatively.

Prologue has a distinctly wider and better range of books; literature, food, health, the normal kind of genres. Although not a hefty amount, it is sufficient for an occasional probe when conveniently looking for stationary. Or really, just poking around the store for the mere sake of window-shopping.

The range of stationary is different too. I'd say, Popular for more fun and cute school needs, and Prologue for more sophistication. Prologue does take a little more from your pocket, but it's still within reasonable grounds.

The atmosphere in the store is made more "cultivated" with the more monochromatic theme and it largely is due to the fact that there tends to be lesser children chasing the aisles.

Upmarket Popular

This is what happens when Popular decides to go upmarket. Calling itself Prologue and doing up the interiors with upmarket decor still will not remove that scent of Popular if the shop is still run like Popular.

That aside, they have a very impressive array of stationery that won't be found selling at Popular and for that I will give credit. You do have a price to pay though but on the whole, still pretty reasonable.

Children books

There was once my sister-in-law was running a cart stall in Orchard and we had to wait for her to close shop and help her pack up. So while waiting, I brought my children to this shop to browse at the children books.

My children were so happy with the selection available there. Many of the books were not found at Popular where they normally go to browse at books. With so many selections available, it was easy to while away a few hours. My children could not get enough of the books and when it was time to leave, they were reluctant. In the end, I told them to each choose a book and I would buy those books so they can finish reading at home. I was surprised that this shop was actually linked to Popular, luckily I brought my Popular card and was able to get some discount.

Better than the rest

Prologue has been my favourite bookshop ever since Borders had closed down. I come here both for my book shopping, and also for my stationery shopping. Prologue holds a wide variety of books and stationery, and it is heaven for students.

They carry brands of stationery that isn't sold anywhere, and even their home-brand products are of really high quality. Usually, home-brand products in other bookshops are not really up to par with the other brands that are being sold together, which is a shame, really. Prologue takes quality control very seriously, and that pleases me as a customer.

Once, I was looking for a book, but it was sold out. A kind staff member asked me to leave my number with them, and they would call me when it's been restocked. I was a little doubtful of her promise to me, since from past experience, I waited for a call that never came, but I was totally wrong. She had called me a few days later telling me that she has reserved the book I requested for, and will be waiting for me to come pick it up. I was really glad that she kept to her words.

Haven in the heart of town

Prologue is a little slice of haven in the heart of town and I often find myself wandering in the store if I ever have time to kill. Prologue exudes class with its inviting interior. Of course, being located in ION calls for higher standards, and I feel that Prologue has delivered.

Not only is its books slightly overpriced, the stationery and accessories are as well. I remember shopping from Prologue for last minute decorations; again, the convenient location calls for celebration. Overall, Prologue is a higher class Popular that serves the same needs for people should they need a Popular in the vicinity.
