Yummy salad alternative
Aloha Poke (pronounced “po-kay”) is a Hawaiian concept bar situated along Amoy Street that serves healthy rice and salad bowls with marinated raw fish. The interior of Aloha Poke presents a laid back setting, with mostly counter seats. The space is pretty small, I can imagine it being packed during lunch hours. There is the option to take away if the place gets too crowded.
You get to customize your Poke bowl with a choice of brown rice or salad greens as your base, then choose between 3 flavors (original, wasabi mayo and spicy) of marinated tuna or salmon. There is also 3 sizes of salad bowls to choose from, depending on how much you can (or want to) eat. The Lil’Swell ($11.90) comes with a single scoop of fish, followed by the Standard Nalu ($15.90) with two scoops of fish and the Big Kahuna ($19.90) with three scoops of fish.
As a spice lover, I opted for the spicy flavor and it sure didn’t disappoint. The sauce was perfectly balanced with the right amount of umami, sweet, sour and spicy. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it. Although I wished they could be more generous with the fish portions, this place is perfect for a delectable and guilt-free lunch without having to compromise your waistline.
