Looking for a quick bite, I chanced about Junshin Sushi outside Bishan MRT. Japanese cuisine is my ultimate weakness, and with sushi at 50 cents apiece how could I possibly resist? As a certified halal establishment, the sushi from Junshin would also not feature any Rice Wine and I was interested to see how different its taste would be.
There was a huge selection to pick from, ranging from makis to their range of fruit and vegetable sushi (which I stayed away from) Plastic boxes of different sizes were provided near the entrance, giving me freedom to sushi whatever sushi I wanted. I had Sake, Maguro and Ika sushi, as well as a couple of makis to fill up my box. Upon trying the sushi however, I was sorely disappointed. The Japanese rice was hard and could barely hold together, while the raw fish was not fresh and left an unpleasant aftertaste. The Ika sushi also fell short of my expectations, as the squid was very rubbery and altogether bland. Maybe I should have stuck to the fruits and veggies after all.
I’ve seen better reviews about Junshin’s other outlets, but I’m not taking the risk no matter how low the prices are. Sorry, Junshin Express.
