Popular with families for over 20 years, this restaurant promises to serve only fresh tender spring chickens (no frozen chicken parts here). It was the first Singapore fast-food joint to be certified halal in 1990.
Arnold's Fried Chicken Hot
Better than KFC
I love Arnold's Fried Chicken. Every meal here is definitely an enjoyable, albeit sinful one. It's useful to note that this place, although not located very ideally, can get very crowded during meal times, and it may take an hour or so before you can get a seat. It doesn't help that this place is also considered very small for the crowd that it attracts.
The chicken at Arnold's beats KFC's hands down. Yes, the great taste means that it's more unhealthy, and it is obvious that a lot of oil is used to make the chicken so tasty, but I'd suppose it's fine to go for such sinful indulgence once in a blue moon and not everyday.
I also love the mashed potato here - though some might argue that the mashed potato at Popeye's is nicer, personally I prefer Arnold's.
This place would be a perfect place if not for the fact that it is so small and I often have to wait a long time before I can finally get a seat, though once you are seated the food doesn't take that long to come. The place can also get too crowded for my liking which would make dining here a lot less enjoyable, but the quality and value of the food makes all of that worth it anyway.

Arnold’s Fried Chicken – Yummy Chicken
Some weeks ago, I had the chance to eat Arnolds Fried Chicken. As it was very crowded the first time I visited, i opted fr takeaway option and ordered food online at their website and collected from Yishun outlet.
The chicken was still hot by the time I reached home and I unpacked the stuff. My first impression was WOW. The smell was really inviting. The chicken pieces were really big ones and looked great. It was crisp on the outside and the mix spices and herbs used by them made the skin look so addictive. Forget your cholesterol and diets for some time. The meat inside was mouth-watering and well marinated. It was not dry at all and was having a great taste. One bite itself, I fell in full love with the chicken. The chicken is fresh and we won’t get bored or tired eating it. It had all the ingredients and taste to land it in my favourite chart. It’s awesome and I can say without doubt, you will definitely love it.
The fries were pretty decent as well. It was crisp, wasn’t too oily and held its crunch. Even after some time, it was eatable and had not become plastic like the other ones. The coleslaw also tasted great and it combined well with the chicken. The bun they gave also added to the experience and it was tasty and prepared well. You will love the combination of chicken together with the coleslaw and bun. It’s an awesome experience
To summarize, this is old-school fashioned fried chicken done brilliantly; reasonably priced and excellent food. A must have for those in Singapore, even though it’s a long wait, if you go to eat at the outlet. Hopefully they will open a few more outlets and increase the seating capacity in existing ones. Bye Bye KFC...
Better Than KFC
Unlike KFC, upon finishing the chicken, you don't get that overly bloated and uncomfortable feeling. Both are deep fried and finger lickin' good, but to me Arnold still wins.
I'd usually go for a full chicken and share it with a friend. I devour the crispy skin first while it's still hot before digging into the meat. The meat can be really hot and scald your fingers when it initially arrives so be really careful if you're using your fingers to eat.
The side dishes they offer are really normal, nothing special of any sort that's worth remembering anyway. That said, I've always gone back for their signature - The Crispy Fried Spring Chicken.
Yummy & Crispy
In my opinion, Arnold’s fried chicken has arguably the best fried chicken in Singapore. Compared to the other brands, Arnold’s fried chicken is so much more flavourful as well as crispy. Albeit priced slightly higher that its counterparts, the quality is well worth the difference. I also hear that unlike the rest that uses frozen chicken, Arnold’s uses fresh farm produced chicken, maybe that’s why they taste different. Regrettably, there used to be a time where one can select the specific parts of the chicken desired, but now there seem to be a policy that restricts that to a certain extent, where additional charges apply.
In terms of food offerings, other than the chicken pieces and spring chicken, the rest of the items are not worth mentioning. This is especially for the excessive no. of eeky buns given which cannot be exchanged for any other items, which inadvertently gets dumped. Also their fries, whip as well as coleslaw are all typical and nothing spectacular. However I will definitely return if not for anything, but just for the delicious chicken. Last gribe, I always have to visit the outlet personally as they have a limited scope for delivery, and sadly, I fall out of that vicinity.
The best chicken wins!
I have tried both the outlets located at Hougang Green and City Plaza respectively. The one at Hougang Green failed me because their customer service was bad, so was their coleslaw and their fries.
However, the branch at City Plaza was an eye-opener! I could smell the fragrant smell of fried chicken when I was on the OUTSIDE of the building! Upon stepping in, I was greeted by smiley staffs and most of them looked really happy to be working there. I ordered my half-spring chicken and it was so nice! I couldn't care less about the fat & oil intake upon my first bite because it was so crispy, the meat was so tender. As compared to KFC's fried chicken, the skin of KFC's chicken is always so bland but the one at Arnold's have a peppery taste to it! What a surprise!
I don't have to tell you to go try it because if you are anywhere near City Plaza, you would automatically be attracted by the smell! Oh yeah, before I forgot to mention. The coleslaw there is much better than the one at Hougang Green Shopping Mall.
Probably the best Fried Chicken In Singapore and some say JB
If you want the real fried Chicken, Arnold's Fried Chicken is without doubt the best fried Chicken by far in Singapore. Some may think i'm a bit too extreme but well this is just my opinion.
Why i say it is the best because the chicken is crispy and tender and you can eat it right to the bone. It is one place where i do not care about watching my table manners because if it is damn good, who cares about your surrounding?
The must have when you are there is the spring chicken, if you have a big appetite but you can also settle for the couple meal or the combo meal. Its best shared with your friends or family. Not forgetting the creamy coleslaw and the potato platter dipped with cheese sauce. They are definitely not for those who are on a diet. Well screw that diet because food this good is meant to be eaten not to be stared at. Enjoy!
The real deal
I dont mind paying more money for good food, and I feel that Arnold's has some of the best fried chicken in Singapore. I am hugely impressed with the quality of the chicken. It is not all the time you bite into a chicken and it is not so oily, yet juicy enough for you to swallow in delight. That is what I call good fried chicken.
I went to the outlet at Pasir Ris. Although it is more of a delivery outlet, we are able to eat there as well. I wasted no time ordering the couple meal for my girlfriend and I, and the biscuit was the perfect appetizer for the two pieces of chicken wings and succulent spring chicken. Not to mention the awesome mashed potato and refreshing coleslaw.
Family, Friends & Arnold's
Perhaps not many have heard of Arnold’s Fried Chicken. Nonetheless, thanks to my parents who loved this fast food restaurant, I have dined at Arnold’s since young. Perhaps it is these childhood visits to Arnold’s that makes my dining there, even now, a truly memorable and enjoyable one. The restaurant at City Plaza may be small but is indeed a good place to spend quality time with family, friends and loved ones. Even though queue is long, once you are seated, you are rarely served late.
The queue is indeed worth waiting for. For those used to Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), Arnold is a refreshing change. The meat is succulent and tender. I am not kidding when I say that the chicken is fresh! Perhaps because no flour is used, you can indeed taste the chicken as it is. You can opt to share a spring (whole) chicken together with your family or friends or choose to purchase a combo set for two, three or five person. In combo sets, your chicken is served in parts.
One of the highlights for me (since young!) would be Arnold’s Fried Buns, which is fragrant and usually served piping hot. The mildly sweet-tasting buns really complement your chicken succulent meat. I really recommend all customers to purchase these buns as side-orders if they are not already available in your combo (e.g. 2 Person Combo Meal).
Another highlight would be Arnold’s delectable desserts such as ice cream and ice kachang. For deserts, I specially recommend Arnold’s Banana Split. The bananas served is whole, firm and fresh. The ice cream is served in Neapolitan flavours and topped with tongue-smacking whipped cream. This sweet treat is infinitely the best way to end your dining at Arnold’s!
crispy and tender chicken, lovely
The bestseller at Arnolds would be the fried chicken pieces, including the chicken breast, thigh and wing parts. The most popular set meal would be the two-piece chicken set meal. It is priced at $6.40 for two pieces of fried chicken and two choices of sides. Unlike other fast food chains, drinks are not included in the set meal.
I like having Arnold’s chicken as it is well-cooked and the meat is tender and the skin is crispy but yet not very oily. Together with the sides, which I usually get the coleslaw and fries, it makes a very full meal. It is a little disappointing that drinks are not included in the set meal though.
Arnolds outlets are usually crowded, especially the one located at City Plaza. The queue to dine in is longer than that for takeaway orders. I often opt for the takeaway option, since I like to eat the chicken using my fingers and it can get rather messy and troublesome to clean up. The soap available at the wash basin in the store is unable to fully clean off all the oil. And the quality of the chicken when taken home, is as good as when it is served at the store.
"Aint that good"
In the recent years, there are many different fast food branches coming out mainly promoting their signature dishes which is fried chicken! But who can be the king of fried chicken? Unfortunately, I would not say so for Arnold's Fried Chicken.
Perhaps I am used to having KFC, I do not see the hype over Arnold's Fried Chicken. To me, the fried chicken has a similar taste to those ordinary spring chicken which are sold at Western food stalls in coffeeshops. There wasnt a wow factor to it and it was somehow tasteless and dry to me. The french fries was also quite a disappointment as compared to MacDonalds' fries or KFC's. Furthermore, the presentation of the food served was not very appealing. However, I would say that side dishes such as the criss-cross fries and mashed potatoes were quite appetizing as compared to the main dishes.
Arnold Fried Chicken is usually crowded and the queue is really long. However, it is really accessible by train and what I like about this fast food restaurant is that they would provide you with a "queue number" and you can roughly have a good gauge of the waiting time instead of pacing around feeling lost!
Real finger licking good!
Arnold's Fried Chicken is probably not a name that will ring a bell in many people, as compared to KFC, Texas and Popeye's. Well, I don't blame it really. Being situated in a corner at City Plaza, it is not as accessible as the other fast food outlets that are rampant in Singapore. However, it is definitely a hidden gem that my friends and I discovered!
The last time my friends and I went City Plaza for cheap buys, we spotted Arnold's Fried Chicken tucked away at a corner on the second floor, with long queues however. Hence, we decided to give it a try. Even though the shopping centre and the restaurant itself looks quite run down, the food is yummy nevertheless! The fried chicken were huge, succulent and tender, definitely beats KFC's fried chicken hands down in my opinion! They also have side dishes and set meals for you to choose from, dining here will totally make you feel full to the brim!
As it is located at a distance quite far away from where I stay at, I don't patronize Arnold's often. If given a chance to head down to City Plaza again, I will definitely have second servings of everything!
