A Taste of Turkey

Tucked away on the second floor of Shaw Tower, Sofra lacks the charm of most other Middle Eastern establishments along Arab Street. However, if you're willing to look past the lack of shisha options, Sofra still feels authentically Turkish enough. For one, a look at the menu reveals a gobbledygook of terms like yaprak tavuc and firin kofte, though thankfully accompanied by their English translations.

We ordered the Chef Plate and Lamb Chops and a Roasted Eggplant Salad to share. The salad was disappointing- more eggplant mush than salad. The Chef Plate however, did not disappoint. A sampler of their signature kebabs and meat patty, it was hearty and big enough for two to share. While I'm not usually a fan of lamb, I actually found the lamb chops palatable enough to fight my friend for the last piece.

Overall, Sofra is cosy and empty enough on most weeknights that you can enjoy a private conversation with friends. Remember to take selfies next to their gorgeous Turkish lamps too!

Generous portions.

Intrigued by having blueberry soup warm, i ordered it. When it came, it merely tasted like blueberry juice or puree warmed up. Nothing much, no big deal, that left me rather disappointed.

We also ordered their chicken crepe too, and too my surprise, the crepe came envelop with a huge portion of chicken thigh meat and a splash of the cream sauce which really whet our appetites. That order is more than enough for two to share, if both are small eaters.

We also ordered their bread basket and it came in an assortment of different breads with dips, that was a good starter to start off the meal with, and not too expensive. They have a platter of meat for a large group to share, which looked rather appetizing to me.

Their cakes are not bad too, for the size, i find the prices rather reasonable.
