Quality products and luxurious packaging
My first encounter with YSL cosmetics was in Macy’s in NYC. Fast forward one year later, the brand opened their first boutique at ION Orchard. Needless to say, I was thrilled. On the opening day, I was one of their first customers in line and received free a cosmetic pouch and Rouge Volupte Perle lipstick! The lipstick had a sweet scent which I’m not a fan of. It can be a little overpowering at times. The glossy stains, on the other hand, have an amazing scent! I can’t pinpoint exactly what it smells like but some people have said that it smells like roses. However, scents can be really subjective so make sure you give it a sniff before buying!
If you could only buy one product from YSL, I’d say go for the glossy stains. I have the shades #15 and #104 for the glossy stains. It’s supposed to be a gloss, stain and lipstick all-in-one. True to their word, these stains are GLOSSY and pigmented. The formula feels wet on the lips but it does not smear everywhere nor feel sticky. It can be drying on the lips as there are quite a number of alcohol ingredients in it. The first ingredient is octyldodecanol and further down the ingredient list there is cetyl alcohol, benzyl alcohol and anise alcohol.
If you are willing to spend an extravagant amount on an eyeliner, the YSL long-lasting waterproof eye pencil would be the way to go. It stays on all day with only minimal smudging towards the 10 hour mark. The eyeliner is richly pigmented and glides on like a dream.
YSL cosmetics may be pricey but you are definitely paying for quality products and luxurious packaging. After all, who would not feel like a princess when they apply their shiny gold lipstick? ;)
Glossy Stains and Rouge Volupte
I was so excited when YSL Beauty finally made it onto our shores! The store is golden and classy, the range of makeup and skincare are all displayed very tastefully. There are limited edition seasonal cosmetics as well but I haven't tried any of those. I have only purchased from their permanent range.
I have to rave for their Glossy Stain and Rouge Volupte!!! The glossy stain is lightweight, pigmented and does leave an even stain without drying your lips out. The only thing I don't like about the stain is that it bears this weird flowery smell. On the other hand, the Rouge Volupte bears a nice mango scent is is SO creamy and pigmented. I don't really like the rounded tip though, it doesn't make application very precise so I always use a lip brush. Despite it not being a stain, it still lasts and lasts! It is a satin lip color so don't worry about getting bold matte lips or the like. The packaging is so pretty and luxe although it does attract fingerprints but nothing a little wipe can't solve! :)
I am sure we girls have had our fair share of heavy icky gloss or lipstick that fades in an hour or soon and dries your lips out so badly you have to cover it in lip balm to heal it. Invest in a YSL lip product and I am sure you would enjoy lip products much more.
