Conducive with good food
The mention of Tom N Toms Coffee will first lead me to think of study before I rave about the thick toast there. When it comes to looking for a place with good food and do work, Tom N Toms would definitely be one of my top choices. Let me justify my choice.
A hungry man is an angry man. I am sure most of you have heard of this saying. Therefore, the first criteria when looking for a place to study would definitely be, near any source that provides food. Good food especially. Tom N Toms offers a wide variety of food from pretzels to thick toasts. I would recommend the latter. I find it filling and one of those thick toasts would be able to last me a meal. Try the maple or honey ones if you are looking for something sweet. Otherwise the garlic thick toast if you are looking for something savoury.
Next, a place with power plugs as well as free wireless internet. Tom N Toms café checked. Yes, it will fit the bill nicely. It is also conducive to study there as well. The café is separated into two areas, the area at the counter that blasts the latest Korean hits and a quieter area outside the café. However, seats are taken up almost instantly during peak hours. Go early to ensure a seat if you are looking to stay there for a couple of hours.
If you are feeling restless or sleepy, there is always caffeine to perk you up after many hours of studying. For those who are unable to take caffeine, Tom N Toms offer non-caffeinated beverages as well. Be spoilt for choices as there are plenty of choices on the menu. If you are indecisive about which to order, ask the staff! The staff there are generally friendly and will definitely be willingly to recommend the right choice of beverage for you.
Thick yummy toast
Tom N Toms is a Korean cafe located at Tanjong Pagar, and it's an ideal place to hang out at with your friends. Tip: There's free wifi! Their drinks are so-so, my usual order would be Cookies and Cream Tomccino. It's not a coffee drink, I know, the irony, because it's a cafe. But it's my favourite after trying out their other drinks like Caramel Frappuccino.
Anyway, one thing that makes them stand out from other cafes other than the fact that its from Korea is that they serve thick yummy toast. It's a must-try because you can't really get it anywhere else in Singapore (not that I know of, enlighten me someone?). Their toast are to die for!! I'd recommend the garlic toast or the honey toast, both are equally divine. The portion is huge though so you might want to share it with a friend over coffee.
In the store they play K-pop music videos and it does give you a sense of how it's like in a cafe in Korea. Not to mention they have quite a number of Korean customers coming in usually in the evening, and sometimes I find myself surrounded by Koreans chattering in Tom N Toms. Truly an amazing experience, nothing reminds me of Korea quite like being in Tom N Toms does.
Strangely for a coffee joint, the coffee here isn't really that great. What's great, however, is the amazing toast that they serve. Chances are, if your friends have instagrammed some thick toasts recently, they were just at Toms. The toast at Toms tastes just as good as it looks, if not even better, a pleasant surprise in an era when the prettiness of food often takes precedence over its tastiness.
This is a favorite study spot for many students, perhaps surprising considering the limited space available. There are a few powerpoints around though, which is always a huge plus for a coffee establishment.
To recap: meh coffee but amazing toasts! Don't forget to try the Honey Butter/Garlic Butter Toasts in particular!
Yet another franchise cafe.
TOMS N TOMS is a korean cafe located at icon village. I frequented the cafe often during my poly days despite having to travel 40 minutes from home. It was a nice place to study as the cafe was separated into 2 sections, one blasting kpop music, the other quiet and less crowded - perfect for studying. However, the coffee borderlines at mediocre and the toast was sickeningly sweet.
You can type away on your laptop or study all day at TOMS N TOMS and you won't get disrupted by the staff trying to chase you away. Nevertheless, I just don't think that it is worth spending $12 on toast and coffee when there are other cafes offering good food and coffee that allows you to do the same.
A real pity.
I used to love the pretzels from Tom N Toms Café. Now, they are so bad I question if it’s the same store I’m eating from. What a pity.
However, I do appreciate that their branch in Tanjon Pagar has two sections, one blasting Kpop music, and the other playing slow soothing music for you to do your work in. I also like how interesting their milk tea tastes!
If I were writing this review 2 years back, I would be singing praises asking everyone to give this café a go, a real contention for Starbucks. Sadly, the café no longer appeals that much to me, with flies all over the non-Kpop section of the café (I am only saying this because I’ve never sat at the Kpop section). It is now a café for those living close by/ ardent fans of the Korean culture I suppose.
Need a place to chill?
TOM N TOMS Coffee is a place where you can enjoy time to yourself or along with your friends for some catching up or just to relax yourself. They provide free Internet access which password can be obtained from the staff there. This place has nice surroundings and it is well-ventilated.
I personally have been there twice, recently. I was introduced to this place by my classmate, which introduced me and my group mates here to do an assignment together. It is very convenient as the place has Internet access and we can do our work while enjoying a freshly brewed coffee. They are opened from early morning to after midnight, which is also a plus point.
If you're looking for a place to have time off to yourself or have catching up to do with your long lost friends, head down to TNT and enjoy the ambience of the coffee house.
