Starbucks Is Everything

Literally every white girl's holy grail ever, Starbucks has changed my life. Well, not exactly. If you're looking for artisanal coffee that a connoisseur will sing praises for its exquisite taste and layers of flavour, you're probably looking at the wrong place. But if you're like us - the remaining population of society, this coffee joint is perfect to get a quick fix of caffeine or something sweet to satisfy that crave.

If you love something strong in sweetness, then any of their blended frappuccino will work and make you the happiest person alive. A few of my favourites are Java Chip and Green Tea Frappe. Layered with 3 swirls of whipped cream, nothing spells absolute basic-ssity. But if you like coffee and not the ice blended component, go for their over-ice or hot beverages option. A good one to start with is White Chocolate Mocha and Signature Hot Chocolate.

One of my current favourites though has to be their caramel macchiato. Essentially milk and 2 shots of espresso with a few pumps of caramel syrup, the drink had the right amount of bitterness that it feels like you're still drinking coffee. But if you want something funkier, get the barista to replace the caramel syrup with raspberry syrup. It surprisingly works amazing together. It tastes like a macchiato, except the breath of raspberry kisses you when you gulped the drink. Miracle!

You can't go wrong with Starbucks, even their tea and food menu are rather delicious. Give their Mac n' Cheese a try, even though portions are small - it tastes pretty darn good! Besides, there's an outlet almost every kilometre away, why not just give in to the temptation?

Good, consistent coffee

If you're looking for consistently good coffee, Starbucks is your best bet. Nearly every time I visit the cafe, I won't be disappointed with the Iced Green Tea Latte or Iced Mocha Frappuccino. The lingering aftertaste of the coffees are nearly a guaranteed at Starbucks. The signature green tea taste stood out in the Iced Green Tea Latte, which is a feat considering how coffee itself is overwhelming in most cases already.

Ambience is something worth mentioning at almost every Starbucks outlet too; the wooden themed tables and chairs suited the chill mood, together with the music selection.

Starbucks is a tried and tested name – get your coffee fix there if you want consistency.

Way too commercialised

What you first have to know is that Starbucks is an extremely commercialised franchise. They have regular marketing pushes and occassional new drinks to draw in the crowd. And I've got to say, I've never liked any of the new flavours they introduce.

Starbucks' coffee is not authentic coffee per se. I find their beverages too flowery and way too commercialised. Honestly, they are overrated. But I guess they help to draw in a different kind of crowd. Not for hardcore coffee lovers though.

My favourite drink at bucks would have to be Green Tea Cream/ Green Tea Latte (hot). This drink is amazing. Their cakes are also decent enough to have! But really, I'm sure everyone knows how overpriced Starbucks sell their stuff for.

Not worth it.

I have only tried Starbucks once, and let me tell you, I will not want to try it again.

The coffee was kind of average, nothing special, just that it was overly sweet. To be frank, I could not tell the difference from hawker centre coffee. It just tasted - the same. I know it is meant to be premium coffee, but, it just doesn't taste like it.

The serving size is disgraceful. The smallest size is called Tall. And it is anything but. As a first time consumer of Starbucks, I just wanted a sample of their coffee and thus ordered the smallest size. What was served did not deserved to be called Tall. Tiny was more like it.

Overall I find Starbucks very overrated. I simply do not understand all the hype. If you want good coffee, perhaps homemade would be best.

Great drinks overladen with calories

I used to visit Starbucks because it's a conducive studying place (I'm sure a lot of students will agree with me) and since the libraries are always full, I like to grab a seat at Starbucks to study by myself. Even though I no longer do that now, I still like to visit Starbucks and chill. Just reading a book or people-watching with a cup of coffee is extremely relaxing.

My favourite drink has got to be the Dark Chocolate Frap. It appeals to the chocolate lover in me, and I absolutely adore this drink. The taste of chocolate is extremely strong, and makes for a sweet treat. Those with a sweet tooth can order the other fraps, which tend to be sweeter. Occasionally when I need a strong dose of caffeine, I'll go for the expresso shots or Americano, which are quite decent as well.

Even though the drinks are nice, they are overladen with an astonishing amount of calories, so Starbucks isn't suitable for the health-conscious. However, treating yourself to a nice drink once in a while shouldn't be that bad right?

Favourite Coffee Joint Ever

Oh, how I adore overpriced coffee and Starbucks is my favourite. I know it's hard to compare between Coffee Bean, Starbucks and Costa (which I've not tried) but so far, Starbucks wins hands down. Maybe it's because I absolutely LOVE their green tea latte. Simply the best.

I used to study at Starbucks during the A levels period and I've come to realise that only some outlets are conducive to study at. Coronation Starbucks and Fusion Starbucks are the two most conducive Starbucks to study at. Plus, they don't really kick you out! Students fuel their income so why kick them out right?

Although Starbucks have an A plus drinks menu, the same can't be said for their food menu. I think they're really overpriced and not to my liking at all! Even their molten chocolate cake is too thick and the cocoa taste too overwhelming.

All in all, Starbucks is still my favourite coffee joint and yeah, it's overpriced coffee but c'mon. I'm sure you indulge in overpriced coffee once in a while too and if you do, I'm sure you'd agree that Starbucks is the best.

Overrated, but that doesn't mean it's not good

As a crazed caffeine lover, I always suggest getting some coffee whenever I'm out with friends. The first café that comes to their mind is always Starbucks. And that's not a bad thing. Sure, the hype surrounding Starbucks is rather superficial and it's quite agonising to watch people who've only been to Starbucks claiming the coffee there as the best of the best, but that doesn't mean it's not good.

I've been to many Starbucks outlets and generally, their coffee is nice. There are one or two baristas who've made me spit up my drink, but most of them do a pretty good job. Like all other cafés, the cost is a killer but I always consider the atmosphere whenever I'm buying a drink and staying. Most Starbucks outlets have great ambience that's always shadowed by overcrowding, but on weekdays, it's not as bad.

My favourite outlet was the one at Simei, but sadly, it has closed down. A near second is Bedok Point's Starbucks. Both places are a little cramped, but Bedok Point's outlet doesn't have much of a crowd and the seats at the corner are good for working. Third would be Plaza Singapura's outlet. It's crowded but more spacious, and the atmosphere is lulling.

I usually get an Espresso Frappuccino at Starbucks; it has a swirl of bittersweetness that is more towards the bitter end. I'm not much of a tea person so I guess that's why I find the tea there just decent.

On overall, their coffee is nice and their tea is alright. I don't recommend buying the food, though because it's rather pricey and a lot taste like leftovers from the previous day.

Overpriced and not worth the hype

I am personally not a big fan of Starbucks. I think it's a pretty sad excuse for good coffee. They're pretty overpriced for a cup of coffee that you can easily make at home with a coffee machine. The coffee is basically half sugar which would explain why it tends to attract a lot of youngsters my age. Due to the status of it, people are more attracted to the image it gives off than the coffee itself.

The food there is far below mediocre, once again, it's highly overpriced and you can taste age in nearly every single of of their foods. If I pay $8 for a slice of pie I expect it to be good, not like heated left overs.

The queue at Starbucks is also usually quite long and that just makes it an even awful experience.

Christmas Drinks!

The thing I like about Starbucks coffee, which coincidentally is also the period they will see me patronising their outlets more often, is their Christmas Toffee Nut Latte. To most of us as students, Starbucks is just that overpriced ice blended coffee that we only treat ourselves to when we want to look cool holding that cup with that Starbucks logo, right? I'm kidding!

Each and every Starbucks cafe have their own unique setup and design which makes the overall experience at their different outlets special. Some are cosy and quiet while others, noisy and crowded. I guess what makes Starbucks so successful is their Starbucks merchandises with unique designs according to the seasons like Chinese new year, Christmas etc. I have a cousin who is a crazy collector of the different Starbucks cards. Great place for meeting with clients, a heart to heart talk with friends, or even to study.

Quest for the best recipe

During days when I can’t even wake up to save myself, I thank the heavens for having a conveniently located Starbucks where I live. More importantly than my caffeine addiction, I LOVE their variety of drinks! I’ve always been a creature of habit so when I first patronized Starbucks and had myself a cup of hot Caramel Latte, it has since only been that. UNTIL, my friend gave me a good telling-off about how great the other coffee selections were, and have you heard of their secret menu?!

It comprises of secret recipes that aren’t displayed on their store boards and are only available upon request IF they have all the right add-ins!

Here’s the link for all you experimental folks!: http://starbuckssecretmenu.net/
