Anything goes here, making it one of the top spots for the island's gay, lesbian and alternative party scenes. The space is cavernous, with black walls, black tables, black sofas and — you guessed it — a black bar counter, all the better to complement any colorfully outrageous ensemble you've chosen to wear. With an energetic crowd busting their moves to trippy beats and punchy sounds, this is one Playground experience you'll be talking about for a long time!

Nice, Chill People
More infamously known for its sub-culture, this place is teeming with life when the party gets started. In my opinion, this place is filled with outgoing and never-stop-partying people which makes the parting ever so difficult. Unlike my other experiences from other clubs which have left me with a rough shove or dirty looks from drunk and/or slutty girls, this place is one of the cosiest you can be in. The people here are nice - from the club-goers to the staff (on Lesbian nights of course). You can be sure, even as a straight person, one can feel almost welcome into this club.
Although there are some good drops hitting the floor most thursday nights, this place doesn't seem so popular, probably due to its sub-culture which makes it less appropriate haunt for guys to pick up girls (yet another plus point to boot this club on my favourite list!).
Time to play
For ladies who are tired of guys trying to grind you, play's the club you're looking for! You can drink freely without worrying about guys dancing at your back or making stupid hand signals to their friends to target you. For first timers, it is an eye opener as you can watch guys being intimate with each other and if you're a straight guy, you might have a social shock in the beginning so be prepared.
I just adore the music there! They play R & B but it's a remix. Their R & B is much better than zirca or Phuture because they don't play the entire song but just the chorus of each song then remix them with other songs. There was a mixture of rock songs like linkin park's songs too.
The drinks are priced averagely like $12 a glass and $40 for a jug. So for gays and les and girls who are tired of being bothered by guys, this club is home.
My girlfriends and I decided to check this club out on a Friday night for one of Kumar's show. After it ended, the dancefloor was open and of course we knew what to expect, but was still really surprised - in a good way. (I shall not elaborate on the details, you need to go and see for yourself!)
We were sitting around contemplating if we should head to the dancefloor when a guy approached us and offered to buy us champagne - not a bottle but two! We were pleasantly surprised, and we knew they he didn't have any 'ulterior motive' (because he was with his male partner) After that night, my friends (both guys and girls) and I started coming here really often and Play has never fail to give us a fantastic time.
And ladies, this is a place where you can truly enjoy yourself without having guys trying to hit on you every 5 minutes. It could also be a really eye-opening experience for some of you.
Not for the Close Minded
Have you ever been in a club where males do not try to impress females and who genuinely just wanna have fun with them? Well, this is the place for that.
I went here a few times and just let my hair down. Moreover, the crowd was not rowdy yet fun. They will just dance with you regardless of your sexuality and even strike a conversation. The DJs play and remix modern songs and more often than not, the crowd will just sing along with it making the crowd more hyped up. It can be quite a culture shocker for first timers though to see same sex "making out". However, I do think that this is club is an eye opener for everyone.
What is more bothering dancing with gay people or dancing with men who are grinding their packages on you and trying to hit on you all night? Try going to play. Be happy, be gay.
So different from other clubs... In a good way!
As a straight female, the thought of entering Play with my friend on a lesbian night was intimidating initially in the sense that I was afraid people would find out we weren't really lesbians at all and thus make us feel unwelcome for crashing the party. After 2 rounds of lesbian nights, I'm relieved to say that it wasn't the case at all. Not only was the crowd friendly and non-rowdy like so many clubs out there, the music was good too! It was fun, perhaps even liberating to finally club without getting constantly grinded by randy 20 something year old guys.
I’m not sure if that’s the norm but on both Thursday nights that I went to Play, the dance floor wasn’t immensely packed. At times it was even sparse. All is good though, since I went with good company who knew how to mingle with others and enjoy ourselves together.
Newcomers to the lesbian or gay scene, do go with an open mind for it is not uncommon to see couples of the same sex making out with each other. Play is definitely one club that I’d tell my friends – be it gay or straight – to go, for the experience it provides is one of a kind!
Not for homophobics.
When I first step in PLAY, it looked like any ordinary club, 'cept probably smaller in size. I came in at around 11pm, and the place still seemed empty, then my companion who was a frequent visitor there told me, party starts at 12 and for me to brace myself, so the 4 of us went out and have a smoke before re-entering at a quarter past midnight and then I understood what he meant.
Walking in, I encountered two couples making out, would have been normal but they were both of the same gender. One of my friends visiting the place for the first time cringed and asked for the directions to the toilet. To his horror, toilets were unisex, and male urinals were out in the open. Minutes later he excused himself for the night while me and the other two stayed on.
The music was pretty fine and the crowd were enthusiastic. People was definitely letting their hair down and dancing. Here is a place where people definitely feel at ease. Everyone's so friendly, regardless of race, age, gender and most importantly sexual orientation. As the night drew to a close and the last track was played, the crowd was s till pumped up and even shouted out for an encore which the DJ happily obliged to.
It was fun and crazy. Go with great companies who's not homophobic and you'll have fun too! If you're one of those homophobic people, you've been warned.
Something out of the ordinary.
I used to club at play, the place is alright for the ambience and this club cater mainly to the GLBT people though heterosexuals are welcome to the club.
However, lesbian nights fall on Thursdays, on other days it is gay nights.
The crowd tend to be mainly of youngsters and the club tends to be at its peak when the clock hits between 12 to 1 in the morning which is when everyone starts to crowd the dance floor and dance to their hearts’ content.
The variety of music is tasteful in my opinion as I like electro to progressive, sometimes they will play reggaeton or Romanian house music but not all the time.
Entry fee per person is around $15, however, on days with events the entrance fee may cost more, probably between $20-$25.
The club is quite spacious if you come in during the early hours of 10pm onward and you can walk around to explore the club, there is a back door where you can smoke and come back in without going through the from entrance.
But, one drawback I encounter is that the crowd tends to come in cliques and they stick to their cliques, which means a “Get to know” opportunity may occur but not very likely.
A fantastic club to visit despite of your sexual orientation. The crowd is rather young and it gets really crowded after midnight. Some might like it some might not.
The club is usally empty before 1130 as people are mostly drinking at other pubs. However on fridays , crowds starts to build before 11 as there are great promotions to alcohol. bottles of vodca is relatively cheap and it waves 4 entrance fees. for example , a bottle of absolute vodka only costs 70 and mixers come at only 5 dollars before 12am.
From time to time , special events are held and it really attracts crowds.
often i meet straight ladies and gentlemen and i ask them why whould they come to play ,They would always say the people are really friendly and the music is really high.
The dance floor is huge and around midnight , its really crowded with people partying.
Also , on fridays, 1st 100 early birds will gain free entrance and onwards its 15 dollars with a drink coupoun.
my experience there is always pleasant and always get to meet new friends as people are really open minded and fun. Moreover , gorgeous men and women are always seen .
For people who are straight, let loose your hair and step out of your comfort zone and experience the GAY part of singapore. You would be amazed .
