Essence of humanity
Founded by a group of intensely passionate and determined people headed by Louis Ng, the current Executive Director, ACRES is an organization committed to protecting animal welfare and advocating animal rights. Having rescued 2764 animals since August 2009, ACRES strives to ensure that animals are treated with compassion and respect and create a caring and socially responsible society where animals are treated as the sentient beings that they are, instead of mere objects that can be manipulated and used by humans at will.
My first exposure to ACRES was during an Active Citizenry Education seminar, when the representative gave a speech on what ACRES was about and aimed to achieve and the importance of the protection of animals. The representative’s commitment to protecting the animals was evident and each clearly enunciated word brimmed with passion towards this laudable cause. After listening to his moving speech, I cultivated more awareness towards animal protection and resolved to assume more social responsibility and become more empathetic towards the plight of the poor animals.
ACRES’ drive to propel a sustainable animal protection movement in not only Singapore, but the whole of Asia is truly commendable.
