affordable Teochew food
I'm glad that Chin Lee is within walking distance from my home, as their relatively affordable yet tasty food is hard to come by in Singapore. They serve Teochew dishes in a comfortable air-conditioned (or non if you want) environment. Most of the staff were middle-aged women who were extremely courteous and accommodating; another plus point.
Most of their dishes are good, but there are several which are more than delectable. First would be the coffee pork ribs. I'm not a coffee lover personally but the coffee flavour went surprisingly well with the tender pork. It did not have the bitter after taste like in other coffee flavoured meats I've tried. (However, I've heard that the standard of this dish fluctuates at times)
Another dish I would recommend would be the yam paste with pumpkin, or "Orh Nee", which is a traditional Teochew dessert. Their rendition comes in a darker shade, due to the brown sugar I suppose. Yet, the smoothness of the paste is to die for. One of the better Orh Nees in Singapore.
