Dishes similar to 'normal' Chinese restaurants
A lot of Singaporeans must have a psychological barrier to enjoying vegetarian food. Ling Zhi could be a first frontier to breaking this barrier, because the food here is surprisingly… normal. Dishes at Ling Zhi are similar to what you find in any other of the Tung Lok chain restaurants. When I visited the Liat Towers outlet last year with a strict vegetarian friend, we shared a vegetarian version of ‘gong bao ji ding’ (chicken with dried chili and cashews) and a crispy pumpkin puree roll. To me, both tasted like usual high-end Chinese restaurant food. Less surprisingly, prices here are the same as in other high-end Chinese restaurants. If you are still queasy about vegetarian cuisine but want to please your vegetarian friends, ask the helpful wait staff for recommendations – they will help you to choose familiar-tasting dishes.
A note – the Liat Towers branch is rather quiet as it is hidden from street view. It is a good choice if you feel like momentarily escaping the Orchard Road madness.
