Value for money!
My friend and I were wandering around in NEX, looking for a place to dine that offers 'cheap and good' food because we were broke. We were drawn to AOne Claypot House because of the alluring charred smells drifting into our noses. We gave it a go because the prices were reasonable. There was a short queue forming at 730pm but we didn't even wait five minutes for seats. The place was brightly lit and family-friendly. The incessant chattering among diners there didn't make the experience all too bad, although it is probably not a good place for a first date!
We ordered a claypot-ful of 'Dried Scallop Porridge with Cuttlefish, Shredded Chicken & Crab Meat' and 'Dried Scallop Porridge with Shredded Chicken & Cereal' with a cup of 'Homemade Barley' and 'Homemade Water Chestnut'. The bill came up to about $27 for two persons including taxes and service charges.
We had to wait a while for our porridge to be served. The serving portion was average, the food was good, and flavourful enough for that price. There's no need to add extra soy sauce! My only gripe is that the porridge with cereal had a little too much shredded ginger for my liking. Skip the pepper because it just didn't make much of a difference whether you add it or not.
Delicious Claypot Rice
I happened to be walking around Bedok Mall when I decided to settle for this restaurant for dinner. Being a fan of claypot dishes, I was interested to see how Aone's Claypot would differ from the past clay pot dishes I have eaten.
First of all, the variety of dishes surprised me. The menu served more than just claypot; they had porridge, fish soups and a variety of side dishes.
I tried the Claypot Sesame Oil Chicken and was really taken aback by how fragrant it was compared to other claypot rice which I've eaten in the past. I really enjoyed savouring the charred rice and the tender chick meat.
Service wise, the staff was really attentive and courteous. As for the price, many might be put off by the $10+ price for a clapypot rice. However, it is too note that they serve big portions. It was very filling for me. Thus, in truth, $10+ is actually reasonable.
For me, this restaurant is worth coming back to.
