Enjoy coffee and toast in rustic surroudings. Much like a coffee shop selling cakes and toast.

Traditional Hainanese Coffee, Kaya Toast & cakes....yummy !

Chin Mee Chin (CMC) is a like a "time freeze frame" on it's corner (just steps away from the Peranakan museum) at Katong stretch of eateries. That said, from a decor perspective, I am referring to the minimalist traditional-style non-air con, mosaic tiled floor, "smoked" wooden chairs, marble top tables, charcoal fired grill, coffee/tea socks type beverage preparation, that so-yesterday type of thick coffee cup & saucer....and down to that grease-stained analogue clock .

And of course, it's the delicious freshly-made pandan kaya generously splashed on charcoal toasted buns with a piece of salty butter that will convert any disbelievers. You can also order soft boiled eggs or a reasonable variety of cakes and buns (also freshly baked) to go with your caffeine break. On most of my visits, usually after lunch, I noticed the amount of cakes and other confectionery running low quite early in the afternoon. So do go earlier if you like to taste a wider range of fares at the quaint shop.

CMC is a joint oozing with much personality and character, just like a fine full-bodied vintage wine. It retains my loyalty in spite of her "seldom smiling" aunties (perhaps it's busy and does brisk business upon opening and hence, no time to smile) , and I’m certain it’s the same for many others! A true local gem.
