Casual Alfresco Vibes
Timbre @ the substation manages to capture the draw of outdoor dining and live entertainment, preferring to go with an old school feel instead of the banal contemporary style which is all on the rage.
Tucked away in the back of Armenian Street, it is an ideal location for meeting up to get drinks and snacks before concerts at Fort Canning Park which is walkable distance away. You can even take a stroll along the arts belt and museum circuit after a night of wine and dine .
At risk of sounding cliche, the Beef Wellington served on their main courses is hands down one of the best meals I have had the pleasure of devouring. It's meaty chunk of savory beef fillet enclosed in a thick cocoon of bacon, mushrooms and pastry served with a generous serving of garlic mashed potatoes is quite the experience. Coupled with a delightful cocktail; the result is a feast you will remember.
The only downside would be the expenses involved. I recently treated a group of 4 and lets just say it wasn't easy on the wallet.
One of the best dining places.
When I think of good food and blissful ambience to dine at, I will definitely think of Timbre at The Substation. Through out my dining experience dining there, I was continuously satisfied with the food and services.
First of all, the dim lightings and decorations are perfectly furnished and set, to create a brilliant setting for a romantic and chilling environment. It took less than ten minutes before our order begin to slowly served by the staff, who generously decorate their faces with a smile and politely asked if they can further cater to us. They made sure we had a lovely dining experience with our friends or partner.
On top of that, the range of live music that are featured by local artistes every now and then are awesome. Overall, it is one of the best dining places I've ever been!

Timbre holds fond memories for me. The bar where I bought my first legal drink, where I made lasting friendships, and where I first checked out the local music scene. Timbre brings with it the promise of an enjoyable night, accompanied by the best local bands.
I'm here almost every Saturday night, just for Goodfellas. One of the pioneers of the local music scene, every performance is a delight, with something new every week. Catering to the young crowd with stuff like 'Blurred Lines', while also staying true to their roots with songs by bands like Oasis, Goodfellas' energy always brings the house down.
Food and drink here might be on the pricey side, but it's a small price to pay for a truly unique musical experience.
It's always a good time
Timbre has officially made its way to the top of my favourites. Great food, great ambience, all you need is just company to make it a perfect night. (Or do you?)
To start off, they have a live band and every time I visit Timbre their bands never fail to disappoint me. They usually cover hit songs live and I always find myself impressed by the bands at Timbre! Sets good conversation topics amongst your friends as well, and I'm constantly torn between wanting to talk to my friends or just be quiet and listen to their singing.
Food-wise, you can definitely not miss out on their highly-raved duck pizza if you ever visit Timbre. It's a must-try! Their booze doesn't lack as well, their kamikaze shots are by far my favourite at Timbre, although its not very easy on the wallet. They have cheaper alternatives for drinks, although I would say Timbre's on the pricier side. But for the experience you'll get, the bucks are gonna be worth it.
Good bands, good booze
I visit Timbre every once in awhile whenever I have major craves for pizza which no doubt, goes well with beers. Timbre, I would say, has the best combination, not forgetting their Buffalo wings! It's thin crusted and has a wide variety of flavors(I love the smoked salmon, yumyum).
What I love most about Timbre @ Substation is that it has a very out-of-Singapore atmosphere though it's a little hard getting to; very homely with staffs being extremely hospitable. You get alcohol beverages for reasonable prices and be serenaded by live bands playing dedicated songs.
I recommend going on days that their resident band: The Goodfellas are playing! The ultimate enjoyment for that special day or simply, to chill. It does get packed really quickly, especially during the weekends, so try to avoid going late. You won't be able to get a seat if you arrive at 10 pm!
Great for drinks, not for food
Timbre certainly has a great ambience - dim lights, wooden furniture, open air, live band... it is the perfect place to have a few drinks (be it alcoholic or not), and catch up with friends.
My friends and I went on a weekday evening though, so the place wasn't packed, and the band only came on at 10pm. That was a little disappointing.
We tried a lot of their food though! The acclaimed duck pizza was one of them. We also had the Yakiniku Chicken pizza, Seafood pizza, truffle fries and chicken wings. I liked the duck pizza the most; there was a decent amount of flavourful duck scattered across a thin crust pizza which was just the right amount of crispy. There was also a special sauce that was not too salty, unlike in the other pizzas. The topping on the pizza, which looks and tastes like fried pasta, complemented the smoky duck perfectly.
I think the pizzas (around $20) are more worth it than their finger food. Though the chicken wings were incredibly juicy and bursting with flavour, the truffle fries were just average. The chicken pizza was overly-salty and the fish flakes overpowered the chicken such that you could hardly taste any chicken.
On the other hand, their drinks are far better than their food. I would recommend having dinner elsewhere, and then having drinks at Timbre later in the night, such that you would be able to enjoy the live music too.
A perfect place for night outs
I still remember the first time when I settled in Timbre with my friends. I can feel myself already looking forward to revisit the great time spent.
Accompanied by a group of close friends and nice melodies by the live band at Timbre, that night could never have been better. One of the food that I recommend is the Duck pizza! The sauce that was scattered around the crispy crust of the rather thin pizza is absolutely perfect for me.
That night was even more memorable when I witnessed a proposal made! To create the 'right' ambience, the live band even cooperated and switched to playing melodies that are more romantic for the night. Talking about Timbre certainly brings back many happy memories.
You should make a trip down to create your own memory there too.
A place with real good music and awesome duck pizza. I would recommend this place for get togethers , birthdays, chill outs, and dates.
This place use to have a service problem on weekends and public holidays due to it being too crowded. They have implement a system where by patrons can order via an ipad and the food comes faster too.
Happy hour deals are really awesome too, out of their 3 outlets i would recommened old school and art house the most as it gives you a more chillout feeling.
Playing Cupid with the Good Fellas
One fine Thursday, my friends and I decided we had to unwind. I had suggested Timbre @ The Substation as I always used to go there with a close friend of mine. Besides the fact that Timbre has awesome bands (especially the Goodfellas), I also thought it would be nice to relive some teenage memories.
We ordered pizzas and some Erdingers. Our order took awhile to come, but I would say it was worth the wait. The music and food were good but that wasn't it, I wasn't prepared to end the night. After a few beers, I decided to matchmake both my friends. I had just introduced them to each other that night.
Timbre has an LCD TV that displays shoutouts. Basically, patrons could text in to a number and they would air our texts on the screen. I had sneakily 'stolen' Daus's phone to type a confession "I like you" note to my girl friend Wani. Of course they knew I was the culprit, but I wasn't lying, he did.
It was fun playing cupid. Those were good times, and thank you Good Fellas.
Good music but not so good service?
My first impression of Timbre @ the Arts House was that there must be good food given the overwhelming crowd queuing just for entrance. However, upon closer inspection I realise that most of the customers inside were merely chatting and having a good time over a beer, and there wasn't a good reason not to! Situated beside the Singapore River, outdoor dining, a live band coming up soon, what more could one ask for?
My friends and I did not get the outdoor tables eventually, and the waiters brought us to a mini indoor place where the bar and kitchen entrance were. We each had a cocktail and ordered a pizza and beer set, upon which the beer came soon. The pizza took a much longer time however. It was only after a good 30-40 minutes and a few reminders that our pizza arrived. While the pizza was good, my friends and I thought that it wasn't worth the lengthy wait.
Do come here with the right company, because the large crowds could keep the kitchen busy and your order might come late. I will still come back to Timbre with my friends, but perhaps we would make a reservation so that we can have an outdoor table, which I feel is best to capture the ambiance of the night!
Great ambience and great company
My friends and i had a birthday celebration at Timbre this year. Do call up and book a table if you are going down after 8 because it is almost always fully booked from dinner time till it closes.
Due to the overwhelming crowd, the number of waiters and waitresses did not seem enough to handle it. My friends and i had a hard time catching the attention of the staff just to make a simple order. The management should consider hiring more staff to accommodate to the needs of the customers.
Their pizzas are good though, terrific even! We tried the duck pizza and the sunny side up pizza (not sure if i got the name correctly but it has 2 sunny side ups on the pizza). For those who prefer a stronger taste, should order the duck pizza and for those who love eggs, should order the latter.
Despite the less-than-perfect service, my friends and i had a great time eating, chatting and basking in the soft music.
Ambience and live music is all you need
Went to Timbre for a couple of times for gatherings with friends, I love the ambience there where you have food, beers, live music and a group of friends together to enjoy the night! Their seafood pizza is a must try, the crust is so thin unlike the usual pizza that are so thick and filling, and the seafood in the pizza are of a reasonable quantity that would satisfy your love for seafood!
Do order their calamaris and chicken wings too as they are best accompanied by beers! It is a great place for birthday celebrations, class gatherings or simply a chillout night with a couple of friends!
Remember to go earlier or make an reservation to avoid the long waiting time as most people wouldn't leave so early, so you may have to wait for about half hour to an hour for a table!
