Nothing fancy, but a personal favourite

If you didn’t know that China One was there, then you would most likely just walk straight past. Hidden away on a second floor along the river at Clarke Quay, it offers a place to actually go and relax, play some pool, and experience a different side to Clarke Quay. It’s no club, it definitely isn’t fancy, and it’s refreshingly quiet, which you may or may not be after.

I’ve only been on two occasions, the first my friends and I just about saw the sign for free entry, and found ourselves being almost the only people in the bar, so played pool all night and had a pretty chilled time. The other night, China One was a venue for some music acts, and even with so many people packed into the venue the staff still managed to keep everything moving surprisingly smoothly, although the sound system sounded as if it had seen better days.

It’s no Ku De Ta, it seems a little run down and no longer in its heyday, however I personally love it here. The drinks aren’t too expensive, the staff are friendly and it’s the perfect place to escape for a while from the mayhem of the clubs and bars which always seem cramped.
