Good food and beer
With world-wide branches situated in China, Indonesia, Russia, South Africa and of course, Germany, Paulaner Brauhaus is one of the very few famed German restaurants in Singapore. Located right above their pub/bar, the restaurant is known to receive a warm-hearted response from both locals and foreign expatriates.
Their menu introduces an extensive list of traditional and modern German dishes which cannot be found just anywhere. We were rather surprised by the immense portions served to the table just beside us.
I decided on one of their Paulaner’s Sausage Specialties, Nurnberger Grilled Sausages with Mashed Potatoes and Sauerkruat. I had definitely not expected the dish to arrive at my table with such generous servings of sausages. Thick, juicy slabs of sausages which piled on top of one another, I enjoyed every single one of them for they were so well-glazed. The Sauerkraut which in our opinion, tasted like Chinese preserved vegetables just that it had a slight hint of saltiness, was rather light and tasty and I could not stop myself from chewing on them.
Their signature dish, Crispy Pork Knuckle with Sauerkraut and Bread Dumpling which is definitely a must-try. As sinful as it visually appears to be, be prepared to indulge in a seemingly endless serving of tender and succulent pork meat. The thick layer of skin crackled upon biting on it (not that I had it). The chewy Bread Dumplings were quite memorable too.
From their rather small selection of desserts, we settled for their Homemade Apple Strudel with Vanilla Ice-cream. In my opinion, it was one of the better Apple Strudels out there. The strudel was more than generously filled with aromatic grated apples and the pastry does not crumble too easily. The savourly-layered pastry did not taste too sweet and complemented very well with the Vanilla Ice-cream.
Their authentic Bavarian menu was a treat for us and the ambience was perfect for the patrons to engage in any sort of social interaction. Is it worth the visit? Yes, definitely one of the few German restaurants worth giving a try. Do keep a look out for their Sunday Brunch Buffet which appears to be rather appealing.
Best place to go during Oktoberfest
Beer drinking during Oktoberfest is a must-do, and where better to do it than at Paulaner Brauhaus?
A friend and I made a reservation and was showed to the second storey where we had a cosy corner to ourselves. The decor was fantastic and there was a live band that played a few songs while dancing round the restaurant. It being the Oktoberfest, I wasn't surprised that so much effort was uot in to ensure the authentic German experience. The main course dishes were not too bad, but the star of the night was the beer. I'm not much of a drinker but the mandatory beer during Oktoberfest is a tradition and my friend and I each had a pint anyway. The beer was really smooth! Highly recommend :)
great beer and live band
I patronize Paulaner about once a month and I always enjoy my visit there. The main attraction is their house-brand beer. For someone who doesn't really like beer, I really enjoy the beer there. It is smooth and nice to drink and the glass it comes in is really tall! I'd say two girls can share one drink. The live band at the Millenia Walk branch is pretty good. They are very engaging as well. One good thing that I like is that the live band isn't too loud and overpowering so much so that you are unable to hear your friends speak. I love to multi-task and being able to talk to my friends while listening to music is definitely a plus in my book!
If there's an area they can improve on, it would be the service. Paulaner is usually packed and the waiter and waitresses might not notice you so do yourself a favour by signalling for the waiter to come instead. You might save yourself a great deal of time as opposed to waiting for their initiative to come forward. Other than that, drinks are served pretty quickly. The place has a very inviting and relaxing atmosphere. Just sit back, relax, enjoy your beer while talking to your friends. Remember, IF YOU DRINK, DON'T DRIVE! Take a cab. :)
Big portions and Great Beer
Paulaner is another place when you can get authentic german food.
Service there can be said to be average at best. The staff gives the impression that all their guests already knows the menu and they do not do any recommendations or try to get me to order other stuff. For example, i only ordered a main course, but the staff do not go further to ask if i wanted soup or starters or dessert, which normally happens at other places, or they will always emphasize something great about their menu. Weird service to me.
For the beer, fantastic lager beer brewed in house, It was cold, smooth, fresh and definitely one glass is not enough to enjoy the freshness of the beer.
For their food, it was salty but definitely not as salty as i tried in Germany. But one thing did not changed, the portion was enormous. The soup was like a double portion and the pork knuckles too. Mushroom soup was a little too watery, but the taste is rich. Do note to drink it when it is hot as it gets more and more salty when it is cold. The knuckles is tender and tasty and full of meat.
