There is definitely an air of change at Balaclava. gone are the dancing, jiving crowd and hello stoic and somber youngsters; Goodbye after-work crowd and hello partying kids?!
These are what I saw and experienced at the new Balaclava. I visited them at their previous home and found it fun enough to return again, only now I'm wondering if I should ever go back again. The "oomph" factor that defined Balaclava is not longer there, sadly.
I've heard better music at Alley Bar and numerous hangouts, and sadly, I've experienced more spontaneity in the crowd than what I saw at Balaclava. Perhaps it's going to take some time to revive the spirit of the former, but still, the latter certainly is a work in progress!
Hidden and paled in comparison to the old Balaclava at Suntec
The music was great - loved the band but we had a hard time finding this place compared to the old BalaClava site at Suntec. It was really crowded and paled in comparison to the old Balaclava it once was.
Balaclava was once well-known for the working crowd and has a luxurious feel to it. However, it seems like the place is attracting a lot of younger people. Army boys were sitting next to us and it was kind of weird cos there was an older crowd sitting near the band. Maybe it means that Balaclava is attracting people from all ages too? Compared to the old Balaclava with crowds dancing to the music, this bar was quite ordinary.
