Having been to Harry's twice (both at the Chjimes outlet), my experiences there have been quite hit and miss, but one thing remains constant - their incredible ambience.
It might be due to the fact that it's located in Chjimes and therefore blends in with the atmosphere there, but their choice of songs was highly appropriate for the mood (nights where you just want escapist thrills) and they manage to set the bar up to achieve a white noise kind of effect so that you can really zone out and chill with your friends.
The price here can be quite steep though, and they have no happy hour promotions which is quite unfortunate. The service here was great the first time I came around, but perhaps because it was more crowded the second time (and service staff were different), their service standards fell. There is, however, a 10% discount with UOB.
All in all, nothing great to rave about (ambience aside) and Harry's is my fall back bar for when we have no idea where to go OR happy hour is over.
Paul... What's his name again?
So I'm an avid musician, travelling, writing, and recording kinda is my thing. But I've always found the local bar music scene in Singapore a little daunting, despite the fact that I've had my fair share of experience playing there.
To me the epitome of bar music is Harry's. Mainly because of this one guitarist I met while there. I don't remember his last name. He was an indian guy by the name of Paul, everyone knows him but probably can't spell his last name. None the less, listening to him was kind of a discouraging experience. It was a reminder to me how far I had to go. But it did spur me on to continue with my craft.
After his session, he came over to me and said, "I see you're a musician. I can tell because you've been dissecting my playing." I liked him - he wasn't stand-offish. He's no longer alive, but if he were, I'd like him to know he left his mark. Here's my music today.
Great place to while the night away.
I am a regular visitor to the Harry’s chain of bars and pubs simply because I find their pubs to be very convenient and accessible. While the design of their pubs feel ordinary and lack any distinctive features, it is nevertheless a relaxing enough place for me to while the night away and to forget about the stresses of life.
What I really like about Harry’s is that it is quiet and good for chilling during the weekdays but bustling and full of people over the weekends. For me, that is how a pub should be.
And to top it off, their pubs do offer some great live music (esplanade branch) and live screening of my favorite soccer matches.
Best for a soccer night!
I was at Harry's @ Chijmes for a Liverpool match few weeks back and the atmosphere was crazy! Liverpool supporters gather at this bar for live EPL matches and dirty looks will be shown to fans of other clubs. A great place to go for a soccer night.
Was at Harry's @ the Esplanade last night for dinner with a friend. Had the Harry's Burger and it was good. Was $17++, not that expensive for dinner at th Esplanade. Dinner and drinks for two came up to $40+ and there was a discount for Standard Chartered card members.
Great for a night out with friends.
Tip: Be there early on soccer nights.
Just like any bar
Looking for somewhere to chill with your colleagues and friends, after a day of work ? Harry's Bar may be one of your choice for you to chill and relax, catching up with the latest gossips and news with them.
However, if you are looking for a bar for some entertainment, Harry's bar may not be a good choice because they do not offer much entertainment such as live music band. The price range is average pricing of $15-$19 per cup of alcohol.
They offer a wide range of beers and cocktails for your selection. But they do not have any drinks or food that are so delicious that it is worth recommending, as I feel that they are just like any other bars that provide you a place for chilling after work. But what matters isnt the place but the companionship from your friends.
Great to chill out with a favourite drink, do not touch the food
Harry's is solely saved by their amazing atmosphere.
But take that away and all you have are overpriced drinks and really under-delivered food. Service was slow and unhappy, food was atrocious and the drinks were far too little.
Thank god for me I get tipsy easily, so one drink was enough to suddenly elevate Harry's from "overpriced drag" to "woah what happened why am I in God's bar. this place is the reason why I'm alive."
The music is not too bad, the crowd is mainly young mixed with older Caucasians. I really like the atmosphere but for everything else it really isn't a place you ought to find yourself at.
Next bar please.
Unsatisfied with their food.
Harry's has always been a favourite chillout place of mine. What draws me to Harry's, especially to their Holland Village and Sixth Avenue branches is their sense of professionalism. They are always prompt in service and ever willing to go the extra mile.
At least, this used to be true up until recently.
The last couple of times I've visited them, some things have seemed amiss. Firstly their staff are not as courteous as before. And secondly, the quality of their food has taken a downhill turn. I ordered a plate of their nachos, abducted it actually arrived at my table cold! And instead of having the salsa and guacamole mixed in amongst the nachos, they came in tiny bowls. It was also clearly evident that the quantity of the nachos had decreased quite obviously. Another example is when I ordered their chicken wings one time, and I was surprised to find that my wings came within 5 minutes... meaning they probably just microwaved them!
Upon questioning the staff on this, they just seemed indifferent on both occasions. I believe that Harry's is at the forefront of our nightlife in terms of hangout bars... But serving bad food is plain inexcusable.
A chill night in town
For a good time with friends in the evening, Harry’s bar will be the place to go because of its great ambience and reasonably priced drinks and food. A glass of Heineken during happy hour at $6 is a steal and when paired with chilli nachos, it’s a recipe for a good time. We ordered 2 ten inch pizzas for 10 dollars each and both were considered quite good for bar food. The thin crust was quite crispy and the topping generous, great for meat lovers. I have heard that their fish and chips are exceptional as well so will try it the next time.
The ambience in the bar was wonderful, mostly filled with after work crowd, but there were still empty tables here and there. There was no overwhelmingly loud music just some background chatter amongst people and together with the dim lighting it helps people to unwind after a long day at work or in school. The staff was friendly and the bartenders really know their stuff. The food could have been served a bit more promptly but the great service made up for it. I personally feel that Harry’s bar is a good place to chill with a few friends at night.
