Where football lovers collide
This quiet, cosy pub is located right across the road from Singapore Management University under Manulife Centre. What is interesting is that this pub serves not only beer, but have a huge selection of main courses as well. Dim lighting and live bands during the weekends? Romantically perfect.
I tried the best-seller on the menu, the "Molly Roffey's Ribeye Steak". Although Medium-Rare is by far the favourite among steak lovers (and me), I recommend going for Medium because my Medium-Rare turned out a little too bloody for my liking. Having said that, the marination was deliciously good. The accompanying potato wedges are crazily good as well. Top off your dinner with a pint of beer, and you're all set for the broadcast of Barclays Premier League live matches on the weekends.
SMU students get 10% off total bill after 9pm daily; more reasons to unwind here after a long day! Note of caution: If you aren't an Arsenal fan, try not to scream too loud when your team scores; this place is known as the "Arsenal Singapore Supporters Club" home ground.
Came here for a reading
I have literally explored the entirety of Esplanade Mall in anticipation of this place.
I was too early for a reading here, courtesy of the Singapore Writers Festival. I did not know what to expect because I've never been to one and I thought they were all gonna get drunk (we were at a pub after all) and this place looked so Victorian, so I assumed our topics could go in that direction.
I stepped in finally at opening time and the place was a little re-arranged, with easy chairs placed in more apparent view for the speakers. The topic was darkness and dystopia, and I am so very sorry but it did not particularly appeal to me.
I was checking out the decor of the place and it feels so old-fashioned homely. They weren't serving most of their menu items for the reading and I got myself a small cocktail, a sunrise of sorts, and it tasted alright. From what I gather, the menu items are on the pricey side and I wouldn't find myself here for anything else but the ambiance.
I went to Sauce after for my friends so I guess it's lucky it's conveniently located.
