Since its introduction in 2006, Hacienda has been an iconic resident in the increasing line-up of dining options and nightspots at Dempsey Hill. True to its concept of a bar set in a lush garden, Hacienda’s menu strongly features a variety of beers, wines and cocktails and offers quality fare synonymous with The Privé Group. Hacienda is the ideal solace for a late-night drink or for the monthly garden party and come August 2011, the bar will also be the perfect space also for catching screenings of live sport action. Parties at Hacienda have hosted international DJs and performers including Gilles Peterson, Richard Dorfmeister, Questlove and Kelly Rowland.

That Little White Hut

While driving along the quiet roads of Dempsey one fine evening, the lights of this small cottage house caught my attention from far. Located on top of a slightly elevated piece of ground, it was painted white with little dots of lights, somewhat looking like the ideal marriage location. The curiousity took over and we soon found ourselves at the entrance of Hacienda.

Away from all the hustle and bustle of the city, this quiet place is the perfect romantic escapade for couples to enjoy the night without having to put up with too many people. The crowd in general is more working class, and the ambiance of the place is just right for a nice chilled beer and a relaxing chat. Besides the wide range of alcohol available, the place also serves desserts and food items. For the hungry monsters wanting food before the midnight beer, there is a sister restaurant just walking distance from the bar area which serves satisfactory food.

The dimly lit surrounding and the simple atmosphere just makes it impossible to not be mesmerised by the ambiance of the entire place. The ideal place to chill , this place really deserves two thumbs up.

Quiet and romantic

We all know that Dempsey Hill has many good restaurants, so much so that many patrons are spoilt for choice when they arrive at Dempsey. However, of the myriad of restaurants, my favorite will have to be Hacienda. Lit only with dim warm lights and candles, the ambience is quiet and romantic. Also, one doesn't have to burn a hole in his pocket dining there.

A hearty serving of Quesadilla will only cost you $13, and you can enjoy a bottle of their house wine for below $40. After dinner, those with a sweet tooth can choose from an array of deserts. If asked to pick, my favourite will have to be the sticky red date cake, it's warm, adequately sweet and simply just melts away in your mouth. Couples out there looking for a quiet dinner should definitely head to Hacienda.

Take your "chill-pill" here

The place is not really transportation-savvy; you’ll do better to go there via driving in. The place has a bar-like concept where you can just “chill” and talk freely. It has an outdoor setting with with bushes nearby that gives rise to nature-based environment. The atmosphere is laid back too.

In the background, you could hear jazzy music tunes which are somewhat entrancing. There are candles on the table at night which helps to build up a romantic mood. The place is also good for informal business meetings, accommodating 6-8 people per table.

However, when it gets quite hot, sitting outside will really turn you off. of course, you could always get a refreshing drink to cool down. I tried the home-made lemonade. A huge glass it was and was approximately $13. You can really taste the freshness of the lemon in each sip. Worth the money but not something I would order frequently.

The service was great. Even if you have finished your meal/drink, they would not really ask you to leave even if you stayed there for like 6 hours. The staff was also friendly. There was a time I broke a glass but they quickly cleared it up without any complaints.

There are shops nearby in the vicinity such as exclusive carpet and furniture shops, or even painting shops that could cater to housing needs. All of these are located along Dempsey road. So you could browse around the area right after that relaxing time at Hacienda’s!
