Great cakes and they are Halal!
If you are looking for great tasting cakes that are Halal, look no further.
I just love their chocolate cakes. They are rich and moist and they do not cost as much as say B Solo? The fact that they are halal is a master stroke at tapping into the big Muslim market. That's extra business for you.
I love the cakes from the royals, especially their brownies. I have always associated the royals to be affordable and reasonably priced and most of their food items are above average.
Their brownies are often very rich and savoury and are sufficiently moist, unlike most brownies, you do not feel "sick" after a few mouthfuls and I have to exercise a great amount of self restraint to not order another piece. Their mushroom soup is also not bad, it does not taste like it came out of a can and has a homemade goodness to it. Their fish and chips which I also tried was just average, it cost half of what most places would charge.
Used to be better
When I first tried the cakes at The Royal, I was impressed! Though the cakes do not look that appetizing, it was pretty delicious! They usually have cut sampled for customers to try before buying. Their cheesecakes were pretty good in my opinion. However, when I bought a Blueberry cheesecake for myself a few weeks ago, I felt that their standard dropped a great deal! The cheesecake is now hard and too sour for my liking. I did not remember it to taste like that!
However, I must say that the price for a piece of cake at The Royal is cheaper than most confectionary shops. Though they used to bake better cakes, it is not too bad now. Or maybe I was just unlucky that day to buy a cheesecake which was substandard.
Sinfully delicious cakes!
I simply love the cakes from The Royals. Their sweet temptations are simply irresistible and I just had a visit at one of their branches in Lot 1 yesterday. The norm cakes that I usually go for are either the American Carrot Cake or the Dark Chocolate Truffle.
Their American Carrot Cakes are so yummy! Sinfully coated with cream cheese which simply melts in your mouth and the toasted walnuts add the perfect crunch to the cake with every bite! The Dark Chocolate Truffle on the other hand, is very rich and sweet with oozing dark chocolate which is simply phenomenal – fluffy, moist and light. A must try!
I heard their Nyo Nya Mee Siam is a kick! With all those hype on the Mee Siam, perhaps, I should give it a try on my next visit too!
best Mee Siam ever
The place may be popular for its cakes and pastries but for those of you looking for that some local fare, Royal's cafe may be the last place you would ever think of to have a good plate of local dish.
You would be surprise to know that they serve one of the best Mee Siam ever and this is coming from a person who doesn't eat mee siam at all. The first time i was introduced to Royal's cafe, i was unsure of what to order but according to the menu, Mee siam was the recommended and best seller item. In fact it was very obvious from the minute i stepped into the cafe because most of the diners were slurping on huge bowls of Mee Siam.
One advise is never wear a white top if you're eating it because you may stain your clothes.
Good affordable cakes
I often drop by The Royals Cafe on afternoons for a little pick-me-up. A dainty piece of cake or two to perk my day.
The cakes I always go for would be the carrot cake - (only $1.20 for bite sized portion) and a cheesecake - ($3 onwards)
The carrot cake is pretty delectable, moist with a fluffy texture, coated with a sinful spread of cream cheese and a slight crunch of walnut, present.
Cheesecakes are not bad either, there's quite a variety to choose from - Oreo, Strawberry, Mango, Blueberry, New York, and more.
We always get one of 'Grandma's Chocolate Cake' to fix our chocolate craving. It is of normal cake-sized portion and is priced very affordably at $12.50. Not to mention that it is fluffy and melts in your mouth. Perfect chocolate cake!
Better stick to the cakes!
I first found out about The Royals’ Café when my mum brought back a box of carrot cake from the Siglap outlet in Crescendo Building. Two of us finished the entire loaf over breakfast the next morning – that’s how good the carrot cake at Royals’ is!
After our positive carrot cake experience, we experimented with the other Royals’ cakes. They are good, but not superlatively so. At Royals’, most of the cakes come in teeny, finger-length slices. I do not find the prices low, but I agree with other reviewers that they are reasonable.
I have only dined at the Café itself once. The mainly local menu (e.g. laksa, curry chicken) is forgettable, and so is the basic ambiance. My recommendation is definitely their cakes.
delicious and inexpensive cakes
I've only been to the outlet at square 2 and i loved the cakes the first time i tried it. I was there on a recommendation by a friend. I heard that the dark chocolate truffle cake was really good and indeed it was! i can't remember the exact price but a small slice cost me only slightly more than a dollar.
I also tried the chocolate mint cake. The taste of mint was a little overpowering but otherwise the cake was like the chocolate truffle cake, rich, dense and deliciously chocolatey. it also cost only slight above a dollar. the cakes here are very affordable and they also look quite yummy, I regret not buying more varieties to try.
the royals reminds me more of a neighborhood bakery than an atas bakery. So at first i was a little skeptical of the quality of their cakes. but it turned out very yummy. especially their dark chocolate truffle cake. they also have savory food such as pies but i didn't give it a try.
The royals is also certified halal and if i remember correctly, they also do deliveries. I love how the cakes are a notch above those that you can get at neighborhood bakeries but yet the pricing is just as cheap. I would definitely go back to the royals again.
Not too bad for a cake
Ever thought of any thing that goes along well with your drinks for high tea? You can get something to munch from The Royals. Providing a wide variety of cake, be it just a normal cake to cakes for special occasion, you surely would not want to miss any bite from this stall.
Based on my own experience, I love the dark chocolate truffle (people who don't like sweet stuff might not like this cake). Yes, it is quite sweet for a dark chocolate and the amount of chocolate given is very generous, it is also very soft and yummy. I fell in love with this cake at the first bite.
I myself am a chocolate lover, so eating this cake would be a pleasure to me.
For those who don't really fancy sweet cakes, you might want to try the mango delight. The mango is fresh, not too sweet and you won't feel sick of eating this cake.
Other kind of cakes would include chicken pie; I would say that I don't fancy them too much because the flour is so much and the layers are too thick. The same thing goes for the curry puff; if the don't cook with such an overwhelming amount of flour and keep it thin enough to wrap the curry, I think the curry puff would be a great one.
So, in overall, I would still recommend my friends to try the dark chocolate truffle or the mango delight. Both either for sweet tooth or non sweet tooth.
