High Tea

Located at the Boat Quay, this small cafe was popped out from the rest of the restaurants from the row of shophouses by its green patch of faux grass in its alfresco area by the river. As it was quite hot, most tend to sit indoor. The cafe was by Sherie Quek, who was Former Ritz-Carlton head pastry chef. The cafe was bright and simple looking with a glass-encased kitchen at the back. There was also a small area for kids to play. The menu had wooden looking cover and looked quite unique.

Lemon Meringue Tart ($4.50++)
The tart was surprising soft and easily sliced off with a fork. It tasted slightly tart and not too sweet.

Shepherd’s Pie ($11.90++)
Minced Lamb in a savoury tomato based sauce with carrots, celery and onions. Topped with Mashed Potatoes. It came with a choice of Waldorf, Potato or Green Salad. The main course also served with a drink.
I could barely taste the mashed potatoes which was overwhelmed by the melted cheese. The minced lamb mixture below it tasted quite watery. The waldorf salad that served with it was quite crunchy and light.

Pineapple Upside Down Loaf Cake ($6.50)
Alcohol laced pineapple cubes topped the simple pound cake, giving it a punch in taste.

Banana Loaf Cake ($6.50)
The cakes tasted quite soft and nice.

High Tea Set with a pot of tea ($32++)
Selected from a list of different teas, the rooibos vanilla tea was served in a pot with a teabag and tastes quite thick and nice.

At the top tier, it was buttery scones (Plain & Raisin), accompanied by butter & a selection of homemade Jams (strawberry, blueberry, pineapple and chocolate raspberry). The scone was very soft and buttery, topped with the various jams ( especially the pineapple jam) it tasted even better.

At the second tier, it is filled with different sandwiches - Egg Mayonnaise sandwich, Smoked Chicken sandwich, Smoked Salmon sandwich, and Cucumber sandwich. Tasted soft and buttery.

At the bottom tier, it is filled with assorted mini desserts - Vanilla Dome, Nutella Tart, Raspberry Cheesecake, and Lemon & Blueberry Crumble.

Overall the food was yummy, but quite on the high side. The place was quite nice looking, but a bit hot with the spot lights shining straight down at the table. The table was also a bit small that we had a bit of problem of fitting the dishes in. Maybe the staff should had timed the serving before or let us moved to a bigger table.
