I've walked past this place so many times, and being a cheesecake lover and an admirer of all things tiny and cute, I decided I had to try it one day, and so that day was last Friday.
The cheesecups are, firstly, really unfilling, but I suppose you can tell that from the size already. They aren't decadent either, no creamy cheese sliding into your mouth like silk, no richness, only normality and mediocrity.
I would say these make better gifts than they make treats for yourself. Your designated gift-receiver would certainly be smitten by the cute exterior of the cheesecups, and perhaps may even be partial to the taste. If you're a huge fan of cheesecake, though, these may leave you slightly disappointed.
I came across Jara Petit at Dhoby Ghaut XChange one day as I currently work nearby. That day, I had just knocked off and was in search of cupcakes, cookies and the like to bring home for my sister's birthday. I didn't have to walk too far into Dhoby Ghaut Xchange before I saw the cute pastel blue and white signage and interior of Jara Petit.
The ladies behind the counter are never without a smile and are quick to offer assistance to anybody that approach. I decided to get two cheesecake jars, one 'Peach' and one 'Smores'. They were a little pricey, costing $4.50 each, but nevertheless, I decided to give them a chance. The friendly cashier promptly packed up my purchase and handed me my bag with a smile.
Back home, I quickly dug into the cheesecake jars with the rest of my family. I am pleased to say that I really liked the combination of ingredients and flavours in each jar and would definitely want to try more of their products in the future. I do hope this lovely little establishment gets the recognition they deserve!
