My favorite cake - the Napoleon cake, used to be from Flor. I used to buy it when I go to Takashimaya food hall. Unfortunately, they have changed the Napoleon Cake. Ok it has the same ingredients as the old one but instead of having the pastries layered between the sponge and cream, the cake is now being sandwiched by the pastries and the size became so much smaller, accompanied with a higher price tag. Sobs :( Okay so I've given up on the Napoleon Cake because the taste is just different from the one they used to have. The Tanjong Pagar branch also changed their Napoleon to the new version. Meh.
I tried the chestnut cake and I didn't really like it. The base was quite hard and the mousse was kinda hard as well... The strawberry cake wasn't great as well. The green tea one was nicely executed and the red bean filling complemented the green tea sponge really well. It is so unfortunate that they decided to change the napoleon cake because the old one was really great and I would highly recommend all of you to try it but since it is not available anymore. So the whole point of this writing is to let everyone know how good they used to be but if you have to get something from here, I would recommend the green tea cake.
