Chewy Junior Hot
Sink your teeth into your first Chewy Junior and you'll know it's not any ordinary cream puff. It's crispy on the outside, yet soft and chewy on the inside, making it perfect to munch on! The puffs were an accidental creation by founder Kevin Ong, who had experimented with a blend of recipes from two different countries. Thereafter, it took him two years to adjust the processes and bring the puffs to perfection. The result is a healthier version as the puffs are baked and not fried, and use only the finest ingredients and pure dairy products from mother’s nature! Today, Chewy Junior sells thousands of puffs daily in every outlet! The craze has also been featured on the Sunday Times and Youth.SG. With so many delicious flavours to choose from, you'll absolutely be spoilt for choice @ Chewy Junior!'

Kids love it!
Chewy Junior is a pastry that has a soft butter crust with cream filling. Chewy Junior offers more than 10 flavours and some include Oreo cookies, Peanut butter and caramel. When it first hit the stores, it was extremely popular amongst Singaporeans from all walks of life - especially the children! Families would queue for up to an hour and boy boxes of chewy juniors back home.
I dont have a sweet tooth so Chewy Juniors isn’t exactly my idea of an ideal dessert. However, I’ve bought it a couple of times as an afternoon snack and understand why it’s worth all the hype. Their cream filling is very light and fresh - it doesn’t have the thick consistency like whipped cream. As i ordered the Oreo cookie flavour, (which is one of their most popular flavours) I was able to enjoy many different sensations - crispy oreo cookies, soft butter crust as well as the cold fluffy cream. Overall, i would recommend Chewy Juniors for people with a sweet tooth and for a snack at birthday parties for kids!
The taste actually varies
The first time I tried it, it was at the end of the day when Chewy Jr usually has those 1 for $1 type things, and I remember taking one bite of the chewy cream puff and throwing the rest of it away. It was horrible! The cream wasn't sweet but sour, and the sweetness of the chocolate that topped it made the taste a really twisted combination that probably tastes like sugared puke. I vowed never to try it again. The puff was also way too chewy, and that made it difficult to eat.
But I did. It was one of those "I don't believe it was that bad" moments and I bought the Oreo one and this time I actually liked it. The cream was sweet, the Oreo crumbs complemented it, and it wasn't overly chewy like the first time. I was very pleasantly surprised.
Since then, I've been back to Chewy Jr a few times and have revoked my declaration of war against Chewy Jr. However, I have tried the end-of-day sales again and those are still terrible. Their cream puffs are inedible at $1.
I love goodies and sweet things, and chewy junior is no exception. After the fall of roti boy, this kind of served as the alternative. A chewy version of a cream puff, but an explosion in your mouth when you bite it through to the filling.
With more than 20 flavours, I dont think I will stop going to chewy junior till im toothless! Every two weeks, I will buy a box for my family but honestly, I have the habit of eating half of it! That is simply how good it is! This chewy goodness should not be left out.
My friends were so obsessed with Chewy Junior when I was 14. When I’ve confessed that I have never heard, let alone try, chewy Junior, my friend brought me there. I bought those mini ones on a stick. When I took a bite, it was overwhelming.
The taste was sweet and filled with chocolate. The cream ooze out of the puff and it was messy. You can never have clean hands, or face, while eating it, but it is worth the mess. The creamy goodness was so delightful. It was like heaven in a puff.
They began to have more flavours after some time, making your Chewy Junior experience a best one all the time. Those little puffs are hard to resist.
Sorry, but no
Most of my friends are obsessed with Chewy Junior, and so I had to try them out. Since they're technically cream puffs (only chewy) I thought I was in for a treat because I adore cream puffs, but I was so wrong.
The first bite I took and I knew it was a mistake. It was horrible. I'm cringing now just thinking about it. You know when you eat something really bad and you feel like throwing up? That's how I felt. The chewiness of the puffs makes it all the more worse.
I do feel a bit tempted every time I pass by their outlets because they look so good but then I'd remind myself that looks are deceitful. So no, just no.
This review is going to be positive but i really mean what i type.
I am sorry to anyone who does not like Chewy Junior's cream puffs. I love it! I really do! Even my parents who prefers traditional cream puffs thought the Chewy Junior's cream puffs were a good change in taste and flavor. I reckon they love the fact that it is a big size cream puff, though. Skeptical me.
My father does not like the strawberry topped puff though. I personally love the Hazelnut caramel and the almonds sliced cream puffs. Today, I bought home a new flavor: caramel butter. Bought it from Serangoon Nex Mall. The outlet at Nex has more varieties than that in Bugis. They had samples for the Caramel Butter cream puff and i fell in love after trying!
I don't get Chewy Junior at all. All I feel like I'm eating are donuts with no holes with a weird springy texture.
And no, the flavours don't help. The chocolate spreads and cream cheese toppings are not bad, but the texture of the 'bun' gets to me all the time. What is this I'm eating? A bread? A puff pastry? Both? Neither? If I want cream puffs, I'll go for Beard Papa. If I want bread, anywhere else. I definitely will not crave for something in between (or whatever chewy junior is selling). It's just... plain weird. It's not something that'll make me go 'oh let's come back again' or 'hmmm I'm craving this'. The total opposite actually, it's a confusing piece of food.
Am I the only one who feels like that? Because this will be the first and only and last time I patronise this place.
More than a treat for Junior!
"Chewy Junior" is such a silly name with such a childish logo. I only bought from the store when an Australian friend told me he had fallen in love with their puffs. To my surprise, Chewy Junior's puffs are so much better than they sound.
The concept of chewy cream puffs is by itself innovative. I like the original best, but the peanut butter ones are not bad either. I'm not keen on the ones with icing or sauces because these taste rather artificial, not something that the store has prepared from scratch.
I do wonder how good the savoury ones are. Having eaten only sweet puffs my whole life, the idea of putting mushrooms and curry in a puff puts me off.
A chewy dessert
I was first attracted to chewy junior by the crowd and after being prompted by a few friends, I simply couldn’t resist trying it out. Sweet snacks seem to be my weekness. What I realize about chewy junior is that the puffs are really fluffy inside and is baked till nice golden brown with slight crispyness on the outer crust. The slightly chewy crust is what distinguishes chewy junior from other donuts and is definitely worth a try. Each donut contains lots of fresh vanilla cream in the center of it which will burst in your mouth after your first bite. The chewy crust seems to be perfect match with the soft, creamy filling which isn’t too sweet so you might polish off a few in the blink of an eye. The caramel on top makes this entire bite-sized snack even more morish and addictive.
I am always spoiled for choice when it comes to choosing which flavors I want. So many how to choose?!?!? Since I don’t really like it when it gets too sweet, I always go for lighter flavors like mango cheese. It has a fruity taste that makes the puff seem even more delicious. I would advise against going for double chocolate if you not going to have it on the spot because it can create quite a mess when carried in a box.
Great Alternative to Donuts!
I can't even remember the first time I tasted Chewy Junior, but I think I am unofficially their fan now. It's one of the few shops that if I were to pass it by chance, I would always stop to wonder if I should buy.
I'm not sure what about Chewy Junior that I like in particular, probably just the taste of the puff-like, donut-like, flour-substance of it, and at decent prices. They have discounted rates too, at late hours! And perhaps my parents would find Chewy Junior too sweet, but then again, this is probably also their opinion for most snacks at such food kiosks.
And I think Chewy Junior especially stand out because I would say that their closest competitors are donuts. Yet, you have several donut shops that have successfully made a name for themselves, such as Dunkin', Donut Factory, J.CO, and no offence to donut lovers, but I fail to find the difference among the donuts sold at these shops.
So yeah, all the way, Chewy Junior!
