A place for audiophiles
I have been visiting Stereo Electronics for a number of times, and so far, none of the trips there have really disappointed me, save for one or two where the product I am looking for is not available.
Being an appreciator of music, and preferring in-ear headphones that gave me good tonal balance rather than overcompensating on a specific part of song output, I always go to Stereo Electronics as they allow the unique service of letting you try on whichever earpiece you want, as long as they have it. I managed to find the in-ear headphones that gave me the output I desired, and this has always been the shop I go to when searching for replacements.
My only gripe is that I wished the retail attendants were a little more attentive as the last time I went there, I was searching for a replacement and lost the attention of 2 of them, before a third one finally checked back with me to see if I found what I was looking for.
Overall though, great place for earpieces and headphones, and some good accessories for said products in a convenient location!
Definitely the best place for audiophiles. The range of earphones there is so much that you have to spend an entire day just to decide on one. You can test out any headphones you want, just approach the staff there.
Stereo has almost every single prominent brand out there, UltimateEars, DUNU, etc. Being an picky listener, I finally settled down with a DUNU hepheas. I was amazed with its sound quality for a mid-100 dollar IEM. This IEM is definitely on par with the over-rated Ultimate Tri-Fi. Thanks to the staff's recommendation, I spent only $150 for something that might cost up to $300.
This is a place you go to if you wish to buy a ear/head phone but have no clue what brand or model to go for. The patient and knowledgable crew will offer you a number of test sets based on what you tell them about your music preferences. And that was exactly how I found my perfect pair of Audio-Technica noise canceling headphones.
I am not one who knows that much about technical specification of audio devices but I was impressed that the staff here were able to explain it to me in a clear and understandable manner.
Also the sheer variety here means that there is no chance you won't find the perfect fit. Situated at ION, this really is both a convenient and great place to browse for your next ear/head phone.
Microphone quality not as good as advertised
I bought 2 condensor microphones from this shop. One was around 80 dollars, the other around 200 dollars. I was disappointed when the quality of the 200 dollars microphone was the same as the 80 dollars one. The shop does not allow you to test out the quality of the microphones so you have to make a guess on what is good and what is not before making an investment. The sound quality of the microphones are generally okay.
However, they seem to pick up a lot of background noise so if you want to buy a condensor microphone, you should ask for a foam board as well to block background noise
Fantastic range of ear/headphones for all your music needs
This is definitely the place I'll go to if I need to replace my earphones (I'm never a fan of headphones for I find them too bulky).
No, I'm not an avid fan of branded earphones (in fact, I've been using my Iphone earphones for ages before the coils near the pin start cracking). Nonetheless, I've been wanting a good earphones for ages (everyone were wearing Dr. Dres Beats at that craze time, both the authentic or fake one).
Having shopped around Plaza Singapura for many times, I knew the existence of the Stereo electronics here but haven't really shopped in it (window shopping yes but not looking for anything in particular). This time round, as I'm stepping into the shop, I've a motive in mind - to get a pair of earphones that's good, value-for-money and perhaps, hip too.
The male service staff that attended to me was patient, taking time to explain the different types of earphones and made some recommendations after consulting my preference and my budget. Good thing about this shop is that they allow you to try out different earphones (I tried as many as 8 different pairs then) before making your selection. Although I consider myself to be a troublesome customer, the service staff didn't seem to mind and were helpful in all ways. I like the hygiene level maintained by them too for after trying a pair of earphones, they will carefully use a small wet tissue to clean them before storing them back. Don't get me wrong though, the pairs you're trying aren't those that are on display for purchase. They do actually have tester pairs of all earphones available for trying.
I eventually settled for 50/50 by Skullcandy ($60+) and although I've tried the real Beats earphones and the quality, in particularly the bass and the noise isolation, amazes me, I still can't convince myself that it's valued for money (high $300 if I remember correctly). If I need a new pair of earphones, this shop is definitely my first choice!
Arguably the best headphone shop island wide, very convenient too!
Being an audio enthusiast, I've been to many electronics shops to look for many different products. Once I knew about Stereo, I've never been to any other headphone shops. You will know it once you set foot into their shop. The range of products they have is just so wide, it will get any audiophile excited for weeks!
The service is great too, the staff there know how to strike a balance between helping you out and leaving you alone. I'm sure frequent shoppers will experience either shopkeepers who are overly bothering or those who just do not care or do not offer any help. The staff at Stereo will help you to their best ability, but when you are just viewing their products, they will not bother you.
The products they carry are all priced at retail prices, though they do have a monthly promotion which can be found on their facebook page. Demo sets are also available for all the products, so you can try and decide what to get. Their after sales service is also great, as they will help with claiming warranty, and they can re-print receipts if you lost yours.
The only possible flaw I can think of is that the size of the shop is quite small. However, there is also a branch at ION Orchard which is bigger, but this is nothing that will stop me from recommending others to shop here.
Overall, it was a great shopping experience, and it really is an audiophiles wet dream!
