Old hotel but comfortable stay
I had a few days stay at this hotel about a year ago. When I first arrived at the reception area, I was kinda of shock as I realised that this was a really old looking hotel not just from the exterior but also from the reception area. The reception area looked to be made out of marble from the flooring to the pillars and the reception counter. It was a very old fashioned look. On top of that, there was also a night club within the hotel lobby itself, and the entrance had photos of the ladies working in the club in their singing costumes.
However, the room itself was not as bad as I thought. Although there were no super comfy or fluffy beds and linen, the bed was still comfortable enough and the room was spacious. The furniture and TV was new and at least I did not see any CRT TVs in this hotel.
On top of that, there were two eating places within this hotel. One was at the ground level, the Trishaw cafe which was known for its Bak Kut Teh. The breakfast buffet was also served in the same cafe. Breakfast spread was pretty good with the focus mainly on local food, so there are things like prawn noodles, laksa, chee cheong fan, keuh pie ti etc. For the noodles, you can also opt to do it yourself and cooked the noodles with the strainer. Well it was fun pretending to be a hawker for that few minutes.
The other place was at the second level which was a Chinese restaurant, and I had a steamboat buffet there. The steamboat was pretty average but I liked the kimchi they served. But well, it would be pretty stupid to pay for a steamboat buffet just cause of the kimchi.
In all, it is a old hotel, but it did not disappoint for a short stay.
