I have always been an aficionado of the French culture.

I used to take French lessons – do you know they say numbers like multiplication tables? And I am watching French movies – it taught me the delicate art of quickly reading subtitles then watching the screen again.

Cue a Wine & Cheese event and there I was!

It was the first Wine & Cheese tasting event organised by The French Cellar done in partnership with 2 other companies – CheeseShop and Artisan Boulangerie Co.

The excellent spread of cheese exclusively from The Cheese Shop.

Artisan Boulangerie’s exclusive, flown-in bottles of the night.

Eran Mayer’s helpings of absolutely delish bread.

There were a range of wines from The French Cellar – from Bordeaux to Burgundy to Rhone valley to champagne.

Their Saint Aubin 1er Cru Sur Gamary 2007 was very raved about by my table the whole night. I was asking for opinions on which I should try and both sides of me immediately pointed this out.

I tried it and personally, it tasted alright, but it definitely was a curiously sweet wine. How strange!

I wasn’t very good with wine pairing and thankfully for me, I met folks with a great knowledge of wine at their disposal.  It seems like everybody at French events – be it the movies I go to or the symposiums I attend – are always ready to share and be enlightened. So enchanting!

I learnt from a wine aficionado that wines have feelings.

He said the wines at this place were not settled because they were most likely flown in. And due to a variety of factors – turbulence, air pressure, temperature change, will lead to the wine being unstable.

To undo that, the wine has to be left to rest for possibly a month in a cooled storage so that it can settle down again and be pristine upon opening. He drew an imaginary graph of a rise, then plateau, then fall. Additionally, he taught me how to hold a glass, hence the (very smart) photo above!

What a lovely night of unexpectedly great company and folks.
