A consistent winner of the Singapore Top Restaurants Award, Peony Jade prides itself on serving Szechuan and Cantonese cuisines with the freshest ingredients and no MSG. Their lunch set, featuring quality classic dishes like smoked duck, pork spare ribs, will not hurt your wallet at $25, which is extremely value-for-money considering their other set meals cost at least $60.
Walk up a red carpet-lined staircase to the second floor, where you will be charmed by the classy, oriental interior of the restaurant. This mooncake festival, it would be worth dropping by just to get a box or ten of Peony Jade’s mooncakes, including their flakey teochew orh-ni mooncakes and snowskin mooncakes!

2. All-you-can-eat for just $38 – Ellenborough Market Café
A hidden gem tucked away in Swissôtel Merchant Court, Ellenborough Market Café’s lunchtime buffet offers sushi, sashimi, local fare, and Peranakan cuisine with unique blends of spices and flavours. A dessert table displaying a wide spread of sweet treats also greets you right at the entrance, so feel no shame if you decide to go for dessert before your main course – they’re almost beckoning you to do it.
The old school, characteristically Peranakan design of the restaurant – think marbled table tops, wooden chairs and tiled floors – instantly transports you back to olden-day Singapore. Satisfy your stomach while also gaining a newfound appreciation for Peranakan charm at only $38++.

3. $15 for hearty bar grub – Brewerkz
Who says that pubs are only for after-work hours? Brewerkz offers a set lunch consisting of a soup or salad, a main course, a soft drink and ice cream for only $15. If burgers, Fish and Chips, and the like are not your thing, you can opt for local or Asian fare such as Nasi Goreng or Soba Noodle Salad – whatever ‘Werkz’ for you.
Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted with Irish bar music playing in the background that set the mood for some pub food in this casual setting. Sat at the bar stools were mostly groups of businesspersons; there are also restaurant tables at the other side of the pub.

4. Kebabs from $9 – Roll Up
A newly opened kebab joint, Roll Up offers different rolls and kebabs during weekday lunchtimes at special prices, starting from as low as $9. A friendly waiter at the restaurant recommended the Fish Tikka and Mutton Seekh in particular; forget truffle fries and get a side of Masala Fries here for only $3. And because it is never too early for a pint, try their range of beers imported from all around the world. Roll Up is also looking to further expand their menu, so definitely look out for them!
Tucked along Circular Road, a street adjacent to Boat Quay, the simple, cosy interior of this small space is perfect for a quick yet filling lunch bite.

5. Japanese-Australian fusion from $30 – Wakanui
New Zealand meats meet Japanese grills at Wakanui Grill, where you can get a 3-course lunch set consisting of a starter, a main, and a dessert at $30++. In particular, you cannot go wrong with the beef and lamb, aged to perfection in the restaurant’s very own in-house age-drying chiller, their flavours further brought out wonderfully on the charcoal grill.
The dark, woody interior of the restaurant gives off a welcoming vibe; alternatively, the outdoor dining area is more classically furnished, both serving as the perfect setting to enjoy some grilled goodness.

6. Fine dining from $28 – Enoteca L’Operetta
Enoteca L’Operetta is an Italian restaurant that boasts an impressive wood fired oven pizza, and does not disappoint on the pasta front either. Fill yourself up with a starter, main course, and dessert from $28++, giving you plenty of bang for your buck considering a main course alone on the a la carte menu averages $30-35.
The outdoor dining area is particularly romantic, with woven chairs and clothed tables nicely spaced out, the quaint ambiance completed by hanging bronze lanterns.
