The winds of September have arrived and with it comes a fresh new lineup of events to satiate every interest – from the adrenalised Color Run to the quirky Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention. Use your one week reprieve from school – or, if you’re a working adult, some of your remaining off-days – to enjoy these 20 events we’ve picked out.

1. World Food Fair

Think of the World Food Fair as a pimped up version of an average pasar malam. Sample from over 180 food exhibitors selling a wide range of food, from freshly-made churros and smoothies to even prime beef. 2. Labrador & Alexandra Heritage Tour

Travel back in time to World War II, and follow the route Japanese soldiers took in the battle at Labrador decades ago. During this trek, you’ll visit former military installations, such as Labrador Battery and Alexandra Barracks, and hear a first-hand account of the war from survivors.

Be prepared to walk a lot as the 4-hour trail will cover more than 20 locations and includes rough terrain. So do remember to bring a bottle of water!

3. Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention 2017

Returning for its tenth year is the Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention – Singapore’s very own Comic Con. Cosplay as your favourite superheroes or anime characters, meet like-minded fans, snag exclusive event merch like a Games of Thrones bundle box, and get the chance to interact with guest panelists like Emmy Award-winning illustrator Frank Cho and popular cosplayer Siutao.

4. Eco Film Festival

Held for 3 days at the ArtScience Museum, the Eco Film Festival will showcase films geared towards environmental and animal protection. Best part is, they’re all free! For all you shutterbugs, there’s also a photography competition leading up to the festival, where the winner will walk away with an award and get his photograph displayed during the festival.

5. The Jam: A Pangdemonium Fundraiser

For one night only, homegrown talents including Nathan Hartono, Benjamin Kheng, and Inch Chua will come together and serenade you with original tunes and covers for Pangedomium’s fundraiser concert. So dance along the aisles of Esplanade Concert Hall as you support our underrated local arts scene!

6. Color Run 2017 Night

Proving that anything looks great with a splash of neon, The Color Run is back for all those hoping to brighten up their ‘gram while keeping fit. Runners will be blanketed with coloured powder as they dash towards the finish line. Don’t worry about ruining your clothes as the colour does wash out.

The fun doesn’t stop there. Head over to the Finish Festival after you’ve completed your race and party on to great music, dancing and even more colour throws.

7. Singapore Grand Prix 2017

The Singapore Grand Prix is back for its 10 tenth year of high-octane night racing. Will Sebastian Vettel maintain his current lead in the rankings or will Lewis Hamilton leave him in the dust?

8. A Little Magic Exhibition

Reminisce the good ol’ days of reading a fairy tale before bed as you browse through the stamp collection at A Little Magic Exhibition. Depicting scenes from works by Hans Christian Andersen, the Brothers Grimm, and Charles Perrault, this exhibition is sure to bring forth a wave of nostalgia and magic.

For those bringing kids along, let them join in fun activities like an interactive “Mother Goose” play, a magic show and a dance performance.

9. PAW-sitive: Interactive Art for Pets by Wellness

Interactive exhibition PAW-sitive is created specially for our furry friends to experience art. Let your doggos try out the “A Whole New World” installation, which will simulate them being on the clouds, as the Disney song that is its namesake is played at a frequency audible only to dogs.

Felines aren’t left out either – “In the Cat’s Belly” lets them roam about the insides of a giant cat structure, laced with moving feathers and bells. This allows them to “hunt” in the darkness of the belly. 

All the exhibits were created under the guidance of vets and animal behaviourists to ensure interactivity and safety, so you can be sure that your pets will have a fun day!

10. Free Make-up Seminar by Peter Angel Wanneck

The word “monologue” probably conjures an image of an old dude reciting Shakespearean lines in our heads. However, at the Singapore Monologue Slam, you’ll learn that this is not the case as contestants are given the freedom to perform any contemporary piece they want as long as it’s within 2 minutes. Audience members can also vote to send one performer to the finals.
