Affordable halal buffets in Singapore

Quoted from a Muslim friend of mine who’s fasting right now, “A full day of hunger is intense enough for a buffet”. True enough, nothing is more satisfying than ending a day of fasting with a sumptuous spread for buka puasa that you can enjoy with your friends and family.
With that said, here’s a compilation of halal buffet dinners in Singapore at $35/pax and under, which you can break fast with, or feast on after Ramadan.

1. Rhombus Pizza – DIY your own mini pizzas (from $18.90/pax)

You’ve heard of DIY pancakes, but Rhombus Pizza takes it up a notch with DIY pizzas. At $18.90/pax, this pizza buffet lets you mix and match toppings to suit your taste. Keep it on the savoury side with the classic pepperoni and cheese pairing, or get creative with chocolate chips, marshmallows and Nutella sauce.

Aside from nomming on your mini pizza creations, Rhombus Pizza also serves free flow spaghetti bolognese, mushroom soup and drinks. On top of that, each diner gets 2 pieces of chicken drumlets as well. While the food selection may not be all too vast, the interactive dining experience sure makes up for it.

2. Marina Bay BBQ Steamboat – grilled meat and hotpot (from $27/pax)

Reward yourselves for a day of fasting by ending the night off with none other than grilled meat and a hearty steamboat at Marina Bay BBQ Steamboat. A weekday dinner here only costs $27/pax while weekend dinners are priced at $29/pax. Considering that you’ll be able to check off two dining experiences at one go – grill and steamboat – we’d say it’s a pretty good deal.

Food wise, Marina Bay BBQ Steamboat offers the basic variety of marinated meat, yong tau foo, pieces and vegetables. But they’ve got crayfish, crabs, scallops, and bamboo clams, as well as free-flow drinks and ice-cream.

3. Kublai Khan Mongolian BBQ – fresh seafood and BBQ meat (from $29/pax)

Perched on the second floor of Clarke Quay Central is Kublai Khan Mongolian BBQ. Here’s where you can get a taste of freshly barbecue meat like chicken, lamb and beef – all piping hot with a smokey and slightly charred flavour. Their weekday dinners are $29/pax while weekend dinners are $30.80/pax.

On top of loading your plates with salmon sashimi, scallops and barbecued meats, their chilli crab is also a crowd favourite. Tangy and sweet with a spicy kick, Singapore’s all-star dish can be enjoyed without limitations here. Remember to dip the golden man tous in the sauce!

4. Rumah Rasa – Indonesian delights (from $34.50/pax)

Located a 1 minute walk away from the Temenggong Daeng Ibrahim Mosque, Rumah Rasa makes for a convenient buka puasa spot after your evening prayers. They serve up Indonesian cuisine using herbs from their own garden and you can expect classics like Beef Rendang, Ayam Goreng as well as Sambal Prawns with Petai.

Head down on Fridays and Saturdays for their dinner buffet at $69 for 2 people and you’ll get to enjoy live BBQ on top of the indulgent Indonesian cuisine. Barbecue some freshly shucked oysters or tuck into their popular Crayfish in Crabmeat Chilli Crab Sauce.

5. Sakura International Buffet – Japanese, Western and Chinese cuisine (from $33.90/pax)

While Sakura International Buffet ($33.90/pax for weekday dinners, $38 for weekend dinners) serves international cuisine, the focus here is, without a doubt, Japanese dishes. From endless maki rolls and fresh oysters to sashimi and Alaskan crab, it’s probably one of the most affordable yet extensive buffet menus you can get in town.

You can indulge in neverending morsels of mentaiko aburi (torched salmon), DIY your own hot pot, and enjoy orh lua levelled-up with extra plump Hiroshima oysters here. With 5 outlets peppered across Singapore, there’s bound to be one you can easily visit.

6. The Landmark – Western, Mediterranean, and Asian dishes (from $30/pax)

The Landmark in Bugis offers a decent spread of Western, Mediterranean, and Asian cuisine, with all-time crowd favourites like the Stuffed Grilled Chicken with Rosemary Sauce and the Fish Head Curry. At $30/pax for weekday dinners and $35/pax for weekend dinners, it may not be a full-fledged international buffet, but you’ll definitely be getting your money’s worth.

Seafood lovers, you’re in luck because The Landmark has its fair share of chilled seafood ranging from prawns, mussels, scallops and crabs that are served everyday. On top of that, their dessert station is also promising, loaded with Malay kueh and churros that you can drizzle with white or dark chocolate sauce.

7. Seoul Garden – Korean grill and steamboat (from $28.99/pax)

Seoul Garden remains as one of the most popular buffet joints in Singapore, and rightfully so. At $28.99/pax on weekday nights and $31.99/pax on weekend nights, you can feast away with your friends and family over KBBQ regulars like marinated meats, or mix and match the ingredients to create your own Budae Jjigae (Korean Army Stew).

If you’re willing to splurge a little more for an even greater of variety of foods to dabble with, an additional top-up of $5 will let you “unlock” premium ingredients like mussels, salmon, squid, and bamboo clams so that you can take the KBBQ experience up a notch.

8. Flame Cafe – 4 tier steamboat with cheesy dip (from $21.90/pax)

Flame Cafe takes multitasking to a whole new level with their 4 tiered steamboat that comes with a steamer, cheese dip, a grill and soup. Their deluxe meals are $21.90/pax on weekdays and $23.90/pax on weekend, but doesn’t include seafood. The premium meals on the other hand, include seafood and cost $29.90/pax on weekdays and $32.90/pax on weekends.

The cheese trend certainly isn’t dying anytime soon and the highlight of the pagoda is no doubt the nacho cheese fondue. Coat your grilled meat with a thick and creamy layer of cheese for an added dimension of flavour. Here’s another heads up – seafood is much sweeter when steamed so make sure not to neglect the first tier of the pagoda as well!

Bonus: Chef Wan’s Kitchen – Malay cuisine (from $35.50)

At just 50 cents more for $35.50/pax on weekdays, it’d be a shame if we didn’t mention Chef Wan’s Kitchen’s Ramadan Buffet at all. Though their weekend prices are slightly higher at $40.50/pax on weekends, you can expect a generous selection of Malay dishes from Laksa to Kambing Soup that’ll make for a sumptuous feast for Iftar.

Make sure to try Chef Wan’s specialties such as this Oxtail Soup that has been simmered for hours in spices, promising to be rich and gelatinous with a full bodied flavour. Another signature dish would be the aromatic and creamy Selangor Beef Rendang.
