It’s that time of the year again – pop-up booths touting mooncakes and lanterns are dotting the island, setting shopping mall atriums abuzz. Having a sweet-tooth, sinking my teeth into thick slices of mooncake is something I look forward to every year. Admittedly, the delicious traditional confection can be pricey, but hey, this festive season only comes once a year – indulge away! #YOLO

Which is our good luck then, that discount deals are aplenty when you have the right tools. Simply pay with a DBS/POSB Credit/Debit card, and you’ll get to enjoy discounted Mid-Autumn treats at these traditional restaurants:

1. 15% off at Old Seng Choong

A purveyor of our favourite local kuehs, Old Seng Choong is a comeback warrior that we’re #thankful for. While most bakery owners these days prefer making elaborate European treats, experienced patissier Daniel Tay decided to revive his father’s traditional confectionary which folded two decades ago in 1996.

If you prefer something with a zesty kick, try the Red Bean Orange Peel with Yolk Blend & Pine Nuts ($58 for 4).

Old Seng Choong operates online but does have temporary booths from time to time. Visit their website to find out where the latest ones are.

With all the desserts at her newly-opened flagship restaurant-bar looking like intricate pieces of art, it’s no surprise that Janice Wong has also brought forth an aesthetic aspect to her 2016 mooncake collection. Each elegantly marbled Mochi Mooncake (U.P. $68 for 9, early bird at $54.40) has an inner layer of mochi and chocolate shell encasing a generous helping of homemade white lima bean paste – a healthier alternative to the usual lotus.

In proud tribute to our local roots, these mooncakes come in unorthodox flavours you never thought would exist such as Chilli Padi, Ginger Flower Rojak, and Kaffir Lime Caramel. Tasting the medley of flavours will certainly be a rousing experience!
