Chili's is commonly mentioned by my friends (though no raves or rants) and I always see that the restaurant is always filled with customers. Thus, I had the impression that this place should be great.
I went to Chili's with my mum and since she dislikes beef, the waiter recommended a chicken dish which can be shared among 2 people. The name of the dish is triple "something" as there are three types of chicken dishes on the platter.
Not one of the chicken dishes tasted good. In fact, there were disgusting. We were full before we could finish them not because the portion was too big but because we lost our appetites.
Perhaps I had ordered the wrong type of food because my friends said the beef is good. Whenever I past the restaurant, the smell disgusts me so I don't think I would eat at this restaurant again so I would not have the opportunity to try the beef.
The Timeless Old Timer.
The last time I went to Chili's was on December 2012, about a few days before my final exam began. One of my old schoolmates invited me out for lunch at Chili's in Paradigm Mall as he was working at a nearby shop. He said he just got his salary so he's paying for me and another friend as well.
Just like the first time I came to Chili's, i always order an Old Timer Burger with cheese as it is one of the few things in the menu that can satisfy my appetite without puncturing hole in anyone's wallet. This burger definitely tastes better than anything McDonald's, Wendy's and Carls Jr. have to offer at their restaurants. The amount of french fries on the plate is also very generous so it is common that an ordinary young male adult is not able to finish his fries.
This is definitely one of the few restaurants that remain at the top of my list of must-go restaurants.
Love the Molten Cake
I think Chilis and TGI are more or less offering almost the same range of food on their menu. Thus, I don't really fancy this restaurant. Will be there only for celebrations or better still, their molten chocolate cake. I always love how the gooey chocolate lava came out from the warm cake. The taste is definitely out of this world and I can never find any replacement to the best lava cake than in Chilis.
The environment in Chilis are more to Mexicans and so does the food. You can expect the whole Mexican fares with American twists in it. This is a great place for friends and family to dine in and have a good time over meals.
A thing of the past
I used to adore Chili's when it first opened in Gurney Plaza. However, now that many such restaurants have sprung up in Penang and all over the country, it has lost its shine. This place is famous for fajitas, steaks and probably beef ribs. As I'm not a fan of beef, I find it less than appealing. I've always stuck to their chicken and seafood selection in the menu. I think the best thing on the menu is their triple dippers, which has buffalo wings, eggrolls and chicken crispers.
As for their beverage, I like that they give bottomless juices and soft drinks. I've not seen any other restaurants that are generous enough to give free flow of juice. I find it really worth it but the juice is not allowed to be shared to qualify for the bottomless refill.
Place to celebrate!
When it comes to friend's birthdays, events and any occasions, first place to actually gather a crowd would be Chili's. Similar to places like TGIF and such. But in my opinion, I don't like Chili's that much!
The only reason I would go to Chili's is to attend the event. If not, I would only go there to eat their bottomless nacho's and also drink their bottomless drinks! Their beef sauce for the Nacho's are my fav! But the other things on the menu, are the least of my likings. Somehow I really don't like the food choices there. The atmosphere of the area is a very American-like and they often play sports channels on it so sometimes it is pretty interesting!
So if you're there to hangout, chill, drink some beer maybe of watch some sports. I would actually recommend you to go there. But in terms of food, it's somehow not my cup of tea!
