A Depreciating Quality

Low Yat Plaza used to be a shopping haven for IT and gadget geeks. Notice that I said that it used to be. Well, during the old days, getting parts for computers was super cheap, good quality, good service and wide array of choices. When I first started to build my rig, this was the place I purchased my parts to assemble a new computer at home. I could assemble a good computer for less than RM1500.

Nowadays, the people working there are lazy and dangerous. If you are not aware, you might just get cheated. Not only that, some of the workers there are racist towards malays and indians. And when they know that you have a lot of money, that's when they begin serving you properly. Not a good place anymore.

Cannot compare to Sim Lim Square in Singapore

When I was in KL, my colleague there told me of this place. He told me it was like Sim Lim Square in Singapore. I thought may be I would be able to get some bargain electronics from this place since the exchange rate favour Singapore.

But when I visited the place, I was a bit disappointed. The products there were not as current as Sim Lim Square and prices were not cheaper. I think my greatest concern was whether I would be getting the real product if I paid a lower price. I asked my colleague there and he told that there is not guarantee that the products are real. He told me I need to be able to tell whether the products are real by myself.

The shop keepers there treated me like how the Sim Lim staff would have treated tourist, luring a cash cow in to slaughter.

Rude sellers!

Even though Low Yat plaza has an established reputation for being the biggest IT lifestyle mall in Malaysia, I do not think that this place is worth my time and effort.

First of all, I think that most of the sellers here are very rude. They have an "if you don't like my price, just get out" attitude, something that repels me from buying anything here. To make things worst, there are also a lot of fakes sold here, especially headphones and hand phones alike. Be sure to check the item thoroughly before purchasing.

From what I've heard, there's 2 types of phones sold here. The AP set that doesn't come with an official distributor's warranty and the original set which comes with an official distributor's warranty. Of course, the AP set is much cheaper than an original set. However, since we can't distinguish between the 2 without a thorough check, the sellers would sometimes cheat their customers by selling them an AP set with the price of an original set. So, buyers beware.

However, the choices here are plenty and you'll always find whatever you're looking for as long as their related to IT and to top it off, the shops are always competing for a lower price and you could bargain for the price of an item. So, if you're looking for an upgrade to your IT system at home, this is definitely the place to be.
