Childhood Memories

I came here twice as a kid to celebrate my friend's birthday. I can't remember exactly which year but I do recall coming here to play laser tag. It was called Laser Quest if I'm not mistaken. Back then, it was really fun to play because I was a kid and I don't have to worry about money as I am not the one paying for it.

My memory was a bit fuzzy but I do remember having a great time there. The video game shop was pretty expensive there as far I remember. Exactly a year later, I came to celebrate with my friends again with another session of laser tag but found out that the place had closed down. So we decided to just hang around there.

Boy was the place dead. There wasn't much people around there to which I'm guessing laser tag was indeed the highlight of the place. Not sure what Mines is like now though.

What a surprise

I first went to this mall when I was around 10 years old and at that time, this place was so sad everything is in complete dire state. I thought to myself, this mall will go down any minute over the years after seeing the whole disaster look of it.

But sometime a few months back, I accidentally dropped by here for a meal after doing errands at nearby shop. From the outside, the mall looks almost the same like what I saw years ago, so I thought nothing much has improved inside as well. But to my surprise, the mall has a good revamped and transformed itself to meet the new standards.

The shops are variety and I can see some well known brands added to the merchant line. Restaurants and eateries are a lot but a bit scattered, which is troublesome for me to go up and down looking for my favorite spot. But the mall is big enough and the whole ambiance looks great. And much to my delight, the toilets are clean and smell good.

It's nice sight, really, to finally see the old mall has gone into a well transformed mall over the years.

Past and Present

My first trip to this mall was when it was promoting the river cruise a few years back. My family eventually took me on the cruise. Passing through a mall in a boat is not a common experience. I remember staring at the shoppers on both sides of the river, I felt like a VIP.

My most recent visit to The Mines was around 6 months back. It was a pit-stop for us to have lunch. While I was there, I realized that there weren't many shoppers. I only had time to grab a bite in the Japanese restaurant, Teppanyaki, at the lower floor, which was quite satisfying. Judging by the flow of people, the mall didn't seem to be in good business.

River across the mall

The shopping mall evolves from a decent mall to an impressive building. It gave me a lot of childhood memory where my family spends our weekends there and wrap up the day by having our favorite KFC. When I was small, I always wonder at the side of the river flow across the building. Looking at the boat cruise pass me slowly with loud engine sound. I got a chance to take the cruise and it was one of the best experience because I can witness and experience their hi-tech water elevator that was one of the kind in Malaysia.
