Great Fish & Chips.
Ahh, the infamous movie-based restaurant. If you didn't watch Forrest Gump, you're gonna be confused by quite a few things but allow me to explain the most important one yet. Now the sign that says Run, Forrest, Run means that everything is okay while the Stop, Forrest, Stop means that you're signalling the waiters or waitresses that you would like to ask for something, either another order, a refill, you name it.
When I came there with my family back in 2008, I was in the mood for Fish & Chips. I was a bit dumbstruck when the waitress asked me if I wanted small, medium or large. Me, feeling a bit challenged and not caring about money a bit since I'm not the one paying for the meal, I asked for large.
And sure enough, a plate came that was slightly smaller than a monopoly board. There was about 9 strips of fish fillet and a mountain of french fries. It tasted really good, slightly better than Manhattan Fish Market actually. But with that much food, I just had to ask them to pack up my food...so I can enjoy it at home.
Once I stepped into the place, I fell in love with the decor immediately. It looked a home in Alabama, decorated with memorabilia from the Forrest Gump movie. There were even racks above the table filled with jars to make it feel more like a home. Quotes from the movie hung from the walls of the restaurant.
We ordered Hush Pups and it came in a basket and the balls were placed on a piece of 'newspaper' in the basket. The newspaper is actually a piece of paper printed to look like newspaper from the movie. I can see that much thought has gone into making the restaurant fit its theme. We had the bourbon street catch of the day as well. It came with fried strips of yam I think and the prawns were quite fresh. Not so sure about the fish though. The gravy was good and complemented the dish well. We also tried the crazy cajun chicken. I don't remember much about this dish.
Do take note that portions are huge here, just like Chili's and TGI Friday's. It's advisable to share. All in all, a good experience with average tasting food. Come here at least once for the decor and just soak in the Gump ambience.
